Introducing Intrepid Tactics

Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:14 pm

Hey WA guns, happy to be here. I'm the lead instructor with Intrepid Tactics and wanted to let you guys know what we have going on.

https://intrepidtactics.com/

We're running Rifle and Pistol courses in Western Washington, primarily at Custer Sportsmen's Club up near Blaine.

All of our courses are single day and follow a similar format. We start with a piece of American gunfighting history. For example, Pistol 1 covers Wild Bill and Davis Tutt drawing down on each other just after the close of the Civil War. We then get into the instruction for the day and the course of fire. Again as an example, Pistol 1 covers fundamentals of marksmanship, drawing from the holster, speed out of the holster, shooting at range, etc. When we have a longer range available for that course we'll get students shooting out to 100 yards, but sometimes are just limited to 50 or 25. Wild Bill killed Davis Tutt at 75 yards, which was the inspiration for teaching longer range pistol shooting.

Each course culminates in a single stage competition style shoot. These mini-competitions are meant to display and test what you learned throughout the day. With Pistol 1 as our example again, there we have students quick draw against each other on steel (not facing off, each student has their own steel!), usually at 25 yards, in a tournament style competition. The honor grad of the course walks away with a prize, usually a nice knife or a tomahawk.

We built out our courses this way to introduce a bit of fun and to give everyone a challenge. Even the more experienced shooters get to see how fast they can run through the competition portion.

We also run other training and courses from time to time, but are mostly focused on the rifle and pistol series right now.

Thanks for giving us a look! What are your questions?
