Haha, I was being sarcastic about the “favor”. I agree, my eggs are a 10, 1.29 a dozen are a 1, store bought cage free might be a 3. My new round of baby chicks came in the mail yesterday. Wonder how many I can get in a mil surp ambulance.

Eggs are a cheap protein, like chicken. They're not always supposed to be for perfect flavor. Some people rely on them to get by. Single mom working two jobs to support her family makes too much money to be on food stamps but still needs to put food on the table. Might not sound like much but that's an extra $20+ a month. Once you tack on other increases in food costs, you could be talking an extra $200 a month, easy. Not easy for someone on a limited budget trying to raise children.

Just saying.

I have access to fresh eggs but usually just buy from the store out of convenience. I don't have a large supply of water so cleaning shit off my eggs every morning isn't on my list of things to do. Yes, I've had them. They're absolutely phenomenal compared to store bought eggs. An entirely different, more robust flavor, especially when you cook them over easy how I like them... completely different experience.... but again.. not in the cards for me right now.

So much of our food is made badly and although I would not prefer to eat caged hens or eat their eggs, there will be legalize the big guys will follow to conform with the law.

My grandma came from a farm and grew vegetables in the Depression. Many people had a few hens and last I heard you can have four hens in Seattle. Grandma could also dress a bird and cook them up for us.

For you guys rating the store-bought eggs, can you provide more detail?

Are you referring to the actual taste? Color of the yolk? Something else?

I go off yolk color and quality of the egg white. Then again, we buy eggs at Central Market for $7/dozen.

The bigger thing here for me in the cost increase is how it’ll affect costs for breads and other foods that use a ton of eggs.

I was talking to a cashier at the Arlington Safeway yesterday and she said they will be having a grand re-opening sale here shortly. They just put a addition on and all new freezers and coolers.
She said eggs will be on sale for 49 cents a dozen
I've had hens several times here, I'll probably buy more here shortly. I usually get nine of them, I like the Rhode Island Reds.
The last time I bought three Black Sexlinked, three Red Sexlinked and three Rhode Island Reds.
I keep them for two years then sell them off.
There is a big difference between home grown and store bought eggs.

I care about taste/texture.

The fresh eggs that I've had -- They're richer, almost a buttery(?) flavor, and tend to be thicker and less runny. I also noticed the yolks tend to run to the darker shade of orange as opposed to the bright yellow you find in stores, but that probably has more to do with diet than anything.

For me, the difference was immediately and completely noticeable. It was a more egg-y egg.... if that makes any sense at all.

I’d much rather eat fresh eggs than the store-bought eggs, hands-down they taste so much better and are generally larger.
But alas, my egg man been slackin lately. :ROFLMAO:

I think I was paying ~$1.28 - $1.48 ish for a dozen eggs, before the panic, and before this new 'law'....

So, we're now up to ~4$/dozen

Nothing like almost tripling the cost of food.... 'for the children'...

I was shocked recently by Wally world prices. We buy 60 egg cases for our daycare. They are now over $20 at Walmart, Safeway has then for $14. Not often Safeway is cheaper than Wally...
