That's cool! Does that mean I'll be able to buy a handgun without the 60-day wait and apply for my concealed-carry permit as soon as I arrive in Washington State?

What's with the 60-day wait to buy the gun?

He said 60 day wait for a permit so he can buy the handgun without delay.

He said 60 day wait for a permit so he can buy the handgun without delay.

Let's see if I can make heads or tails out of this:

1. If I own a house in Washington, I'm a resident of Washington.

2. If I'm a resident of Washington, all I need to purchase a handgun is a Washington Driver's License. The waiting period to pick up the handgun is 10 days.

3. As soon as I own the handgun, I can apply for a concealed carry permit.

Do I have that right now?

Owning a handgun doesn't have anything to do with applying for your CPL.

Better yet. So should I apply for the CPL first or buy the handgun first? Or does it matter which order I take them in?

It doesn't matter the order; I'd do each of them as soon as you can. Well, the CPL will allow you to take the gun home with you rather than having a waiting period (assuming no "delay" on the 4473), but that's not worth waiting for.

Sorry I can't give you better answers on the residency requirements to buy a gun or get your CPL; I don't know the answers to those questions.

You've been doing pretty darn good so far. thumbsup

Getting moved in and settled will be my first priority when I get up there. But pursuing my CPL will be a priority once I've done that. And I'll be bringing an SP101 with me, so I won't have to rush out and buy a handgun before I've got something I can carry. I just don't want to make a habit of carrying a handgun as heavy as an SP101.

Time to check in. Sorry it's taken so long.

I arrived in Burien in August, just in time for the FAA to start sending turboprop traffic over Burien and Normandy Park. More on that later.

Pretty much the first thing I did after I got settled in was apply for my CPL. Once that was in the works, I went to Cabela's and picked up an LCP on sale for $199. I was all set to go shoot it when my wife injured herself. I've been nursing her ever since. Needless to say, I haven't gotten to the range yet. But that should happen pretty soon.

In the interim, I've been schooling myself on Washington gun laws and LCP pistols. I've also joined the fight against the FAA to stop sending planes over Burien. So far so good on all fronts.

Oh, and Ambaum Blvd isn't all that bad . . . as long as I keep my head down and my Kevlar vest fastened.

The planes over Burien has everyone in the area pissed. I'm down near the Des Moines Marina and every 15 minutes or so a turbo prop plane flies directly west right over my house. Annoying as shit.

Check out the Quiet Skies Coalition: https://www.quietskiescoalition.net/

The Burien City Council voted to sue the FAA and the Port of Seattle. Since the suit was filed, there's been virtually no air traffic over Burien. I'm hoping it stays that way. I don't know if Burien's action will help where you are, but you might check into it and see what you can find out.
