Re: anyone know anything about Gold!
Can't tell from the pics but an acid test would tell for sure. I worked part time in a hock shop years ago and that was how we tested it. It has been long enough ago that I cant remember the kind of acid we used.
If it is you might have a nice little nest egg there. Good Luck

Quote: Sink or float? Gold’s weight makes it sink promptly to the bottom of the miner’s pan or sluice box. Mica floats, and pyrite moves easily about.
have you tried panning that rock? if it sinks, ITS GOLD! but yea acid test is the easiest way. Muriatic acid is the name. if it starts to foam its fake gold. Gold is also heavy and SOFT(not flakey, flakey means fake gold)

Re: anyone know anything about Gold!
i am a little into it. WHATEVER you do< DO NOT, DO NOt break it, it is more valuable as a whole piece. Hopefully you found a nice piece, but may just end up being mica...good luck

Re: anyone know anything about Gold! MORE PICS!
looks to flakey to be gold, take a magnifying glass, look and see if it is flake y or clumpy. If flake y, def not gold. if globs or clumpy could possibly be. Remember if it is, that I to am giants fan, take me to the game lol Good luck.

Re: anyone know anything about Gold! MORE PICS!
from this foto it makes me think its a fake because of the big chunk that appears to have brittled off the rock (on the top right and bottom right corners of the foto)

Re: anyone know anything about Gold! MORE PICS!
go to a coin shop and ask what kind of acid they use in thier tests. get the acid in the 14, 18 and 22k solutions. rub some of the "goldy rock" onto 1000 grit sandpaper (small spot maybe about 1" long) and test with one drop of the acids in different spots along the line.
or take it to a coin shop and have them test it but even if they say its not real, take the rock with you and get a second opinion.

It's real . . . as in "really out of focus."
