Rumors floating around that the sequence was started by a drone dropped explosive

Storage conditions were pretty horrible:

I'd say everyone is going to be quick to blame Russia. From the looks of their storage methods this was a disaster just waiting to happen.

Anyone ever driven through the Boardman munition storage facility. As far as one could see were "mounds" which represented individual bunkers. The idea was to protect the munitions from outside ignition sources and also isolate them from fire or explosion in another bunker.

Could well be as simple as a Ukraine soldier or civilian dropping a mortar round or even a fire in one of their POS vehicles.

I doubt Russia will have to do anything to destroy Ukraine if they keep storing their munitions like this. I loved the pic of the rusty "rockets". Nothing like a thick coat of rust to instill confidence in it's effectiveness.

this here is inert ordnance

Image

if you look closer, these shells are missing the primer/detonator/whatever you call it

Image

not sure what's in the crates, can't read any labels.

I remember as kids we snuck into a munitions depot for one of the armored divisions
I've seen anti-tank land mines stacked in the same fashion outside, detonators removed
Crates were stacked the same way, not as many but still

Typically in Russia/Ukraine fires happen to hide the theft, so this is not surprising...

:ROFLMAO: Like the geniuses that hauled missiles around the corner a ways to beat the precious metals out of them in Russia with the butts of their AKs some years back. Epic fail, but one hell of a blast. That incident was not so successful as a coverup.

Remember doing some work at Umatilla Depot outside of Hermiston Ore back in 83 and wondering why so much ordinance and chemicals located there with easy access, and how much shit would blow up and kill people.
I imagine, it'd look like Ukraine....

I've been in ammo storage bunkers both in Europe and here in the US that were exactly like the ones in Umatilla. They're designed to resist over-pressure and fire from any bombs that were to fall out of the sky (nukes excepted) or from exploding nearby ordnance.

Thing about the "stuff" stored in Oregon was that it didn't have to explode to kill a bunch of people. Some of the last pieces of ordnance carrying nerve gas agents was stored there. As for "easy access", something tells me that anyone that jumped the fence would be dealt with long before they made it to one of those "burial mounds". I/R cameras, ground sensors, regular patrols, and guys with guns where they weren't seen. Security there I would not want to personally test.

They are investigating whether a drone with an explosive was used to trigger the blast.
