saw this 10 second blip earlier on the news... followed by a 2 minute segment about 100 guinea pigs for adoption, how cute!

An Auburn, Wash., Republican wants to introduce a bill in the Legislature that would lay the framework to eventually make the city of Seattle its own county, too,
Senate Bill 5932 from Sen. Phil Fortunato would not specifically separate Seattle from the rest of King County but it would create procedures for creating a new county in the future.
If it were passed, Fortunato's ultimate goal is to see Seattle, which he says influences much of what happens elsewhere in the county, venture out on its own.
"Seattle has gone so far off the left cliff that the rest of the county is paying for Seattle's craziness," Fortunato said. "So my dream is Seattle could be King County, and they could do whatever the heck they want, They could have a $25 minimum wage. They could give away free needles. They can do whatever the heck they want, they just can't do it with my money."
The bill is being proposed during the special session of the Legislature.

Seattle funds king county. King County doesn't fund seattle.
His money isn't being wasted on Seattle programs. And he'd figure that out right quick if Seattle stopped funding programs in his county with those Seattle dollars.
This is as foolish as eastern wa breaking off their own state under the illusion that the west side doesn't fund their asses all day long
They're two different things. As local agencies, they each receive property tax and sales tax income DIRECTLY. It isn't split. So people in Seattle aren't paying tax money directly to King County. Now, Seattle money does go indirectly to fund things like the jail, courts, deputies doing evictions, and public health, but Seattle is also a big consumer of those services. All of those things: jail, courts, evictions, public health would become the responsibility of Seattle COUNTY.
Not a cent of Seattle property tax or sales tax goes to King County roads, for example.
The reason the east WA thing makes no sense, is because the state derives income from *everyone* in WA. They get a special slice of the pie. So shifting that revenue to an empty low income state doesn't really work. But changing the sizes of counties within a state, not as big of an issue.
King County has a huge disparity in the services it needs to provide being the cradle for a lot of large cities (busy county roads, busy police dealing with meth heads from the cities who drive into the county to steal stuff). Nowhere in the state is the disparity in income vs obligated as large.
While I personally support this idea, I think it will never happen. What we need to do is reform state sales tax and property tax laws because they are clearly not distributing money fairly. In unincorporated King County, we are starved for tax revenue and have to deal with shitty roads and a very thin police coverage, all because the cities have annexed all of the high value dense areas, but contribute little to the county services they use.
The other obvious benefit, is that the King County Council is dominated by "Seattle thinking". Not just democrats, but people who live in Seattle and think the county's job is all about helping them. There are some democrats there who understand it is not though. It may surprise you but I am supporting a republican candidate, Kathy Lambert. (I live in her district)

I think the east side could fund king county along with the others southern king county cities. let the new seattle county keep burien and everything north of it.

Everything east of the lake could easily become its own county.
The main advantage would be to give those who are located in King County but outside Seattle, a voice in the political decisions that affect them. Seattle is pretty much the Big Cat in the Sandbox and shits wherever (and on anyone) they want to.
Instead of having to share council seats with Seattle, Cities like Shoreline, Bothell, Kirkland, etc, would have their own seat.
Same in other districts that share Seattle Voters.
Not only should Seattle be it's own County, it should have a tall fence around it. Let them support their own dumbassed giveaway programs.
