I have been bringing guns to Fred for a little over a year now. I must say that each time I am more and more impressed. Today he did some modifications to my XD-S.
I ordered the Powder River Precision spring kit, the extended mag release, and some Xtreme grip tapes. I did the grip tapes a few days ago. Today Fred took the gun apart, replaced the factory springs, and polished the trigger components, and the barrel. This gun is much nicer now. It has a different feel due to the grip tapes that, while still aggressive, are more forgiving than the standard grip texture. The barrel polishing really sets off the gun and makes the slide move much smoother, and the spring kit brought the pull down to jsut shy of 5lbs. Not bad considering that these come from the factory between 6.5 and 7lbs. With some more rounds down the tube and more tirgger time, the pull will lighten up a bit more. This is a carry gun, so I wasnt looking for a match 2lb trigger, but something a little better. We already have some plans to try and tweak the pre-travel and over-travel, but that will be another time. If you have ONE upgrade that you do to your XD-S I would recommend the extended mag release. It is MUCH better and makes reloading a breeze.
Fred did quality work, went above and beyond, and as always was a great guy to talk to and have work on my guns. I would highly suggest that if you need any kind of work done to your guns, contact Fred and have him take care of you. You wont be disappointed.
Just to add some porn.
This is what we started with. I forgot to take a before pic, so this is one I already had.
Fred had this apart in no time. You can see I already had the grip tapes on. BTW, these arent the sandpaper, skateboard sort of grip tape, they are a textured rubber.
All done. You see I went with the stainless extended mag release to match the slide. The grip tapes arent grey, they just look like that in the lighting.
Not sure how much you will be able to see, but the barrel is polished to a nice luster. You can also see my custom red crayon. Looks pretty sweet.
