This isn't really a "review" since they haven't left the house yet . . . more of a "magazine pics" thread.

Anyhow, Botach had the ETS AR-15 magazines on sale recently for $12.50 apiece, so I bought some. I've been happy with my ETS mags for the Glock (see my review here), so I was hoping for some coolness for the ARs as well.

Note that the ETS AR mags come in two versions, standard and "with integrated coupling system." Well, who doesn't like to couple?!! Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

So here's one of my ARs (shout out to BadKarma for this one!) with the ETS mag:

Looks good, eh?

But let's rotate it around a bit....

You can just keep attaching as many as you'd like, but I stopped at four . . . didn't want it to get too heavy, lol.

I loaded all of them using stripper clips and the StripLULA, and they worked fine except that the very last round in the clip didn't quite snap in unless I gave it a little extra shove. No big deal, but it felt a little different than my other mags.

Still gotta get them out to the range now . . . .

I shot three new ets AR mags today. I had feeding issues I've never had with my pmags. Could have been the ammo, but I'm gonna stick with pmags from now on.

Also, they wouldn't drop free when empty like my pmags. I tried it in three different rifles.

Have you tried hanging three loaded mags off of the empty one?

:rofl9: Well, that's one way to get them to drop free.

I think I will stick with Pmags.

I got mine to the range today. I left all four mags coupled together, and just went for it and did mag dumps.

The mags worked fine and I didn't have any feeding issues.

When I got home, I un-coupled the mags and checked to see if they would drop free. I tried six different ARs from five different lower manufacturers, and they all dropped free. Then I decided to go check the composite Plum Crazy as well; the mag went in and out easily so I think it would drop free . . . except that the mag wouldn't go into the gun far enough to even lock into place. :cussing:

See the pic below; there's a ridge on the mag that hits the magwell, and prevents it from going in farther. I tried a few other mag types with the Plum Crazy, and they all worked.

Bottom line: The ETS mags worked just fine for me except that they wouldn't lock into the Plum Crazy lower.

Grantizzle, do you have the "coupling" version of the ETS mags? Or the standard version?

Well, I was just putting some guns away and thought I'd post a follow-up.....

The gun I used for the four mag dumps yesterday was the same one shown in the OP, the USO Rifle that was donated and assembled by WaGuns members as part of a very generous contribution to the USO back in 2012.

As you can see in the OP and also in the photo below, the rifle was coated (Duracoat? I'm not sure) in green. The coat was applied not only to the receiver but also to the buffer tube and the barrel.

So here's the "before" picture, and you can see that the barrel is the same green color as the receiver:

As I was sending those 120 rounds downrange, I noticed that the barrel was smoking a little . . . here's the after pic:

Yeah, the lighting is different (notice the different handguard color), but you can see that the barrel is now a nice brown color rather than green..... icon_eek It's not peeling or anything, but it definitely changed color.

It was smoking and smelled funny too....
I figure you just put the final "cure" to that coating with that 120 rd dump.
You went all Rambo and shit on that bitch.

How many rounds would it take to get the receiver to match?

Or even . . . the buffer tube?

I had some challenges today with my lancer mag not locking in. Not sure if it was the mag or the lower (might have been using my Aero Lower instead of my RA.)

Update on the ETS mags....

I used two ETS mags almost exclusively for my recent hunting trip, where I shot over 1000 rounds suppressed through both an AR and a Mossberg MVP. I say "suppressed" because that means that everything was filthy. icon_eek

The fed just fine, no problems whatsoever. It was REALLY convenient to be able to look through the mag wall to see how many rounds I had left. thumbsup

My only complaint is that with the AR I had to give the mag an extra whack to get it seated properly, as I was having the same problem as shown in my post above. This was a different AR, with an Aero Precision aluminum lower.

I may take the Dremel to that rib on the mag to see what happens....
