Somewhat lengthy video, but I wanted to be thorough, covering the issues that come with converting your SKS and fitting it into the SGWorks stock kit. Overall, I am extremely impressed with the design, fit/finish, and functionality of the stock. There are a few downsides, but all are fixable with a little time and patience. Take a look and let me know what you think, shooting and field testing will be a ways off, but it will be worthwhile!

A few comments/questions:

1) My rear sight (Romanian SKS) was a major bitch to get off, too. It had a pin protruding from the side that required some prolonged attention from my Soviet Union Rear Sight Removal Tool. (aka Dremel)
2) Maybe you intentionally edited out the video of the rear sight and front sight removals . . . but generally speaking, it would be fantastic if you could leave the camera on the tripod so people can watch the process. That's what is MOST helpful when you are watching a video trying to figure out how to do it yourself.
3) I use the Tapco 20-round mags. They work well and don't hang down quite as far . . . but yes, they only hold 20 rounds.
4) What kind of sights did you put on the rifle?
5) I put a red dot on my rifle. I tried zeroing it at 50 yards, and just couldn't get it zeroed. I think there's just way too much play in that plastic upper handguard, and the sight floats around. However, it is accurate enough to blast clay pigeons at 40 feet in the action bay. thumbsup

Your rifle looks good with the sight and bayo lug removed. Nice work!

Hey bud, yours looks awesome! Congrats. There are two reasons I didn't record the front and rear sight. 1) that night I forgot my camera at work and had to use my iPhone. 2) the audio would be one long beep to cover up the swearing and the video would show me red faced and exhausted from banging away so damn much. As far as sights go, I have a shortie 3-9x scope that I want to put on, but the rings I have on it now don't fit the rail for some reason and are too wide, so I'm going to pick up some thinner l, tighter ones on eBay. I could give the BUIS a shot as well, we'll see.

I watched that Shernic video about 10 times as I was struggling to get my rear sight off, wondering why mine didn't come off like that.

Well, maybe I watched it a few extra times because the girl was cute. :thumbsup2:

Post subject:  Removable/Fixed 30rnd Sks Magazine Review
So this is a follow up video, going over the somewhat nameless 30 rnd sks duckbill magazine I picked up. It's pretty good over all when it comes to loading through stripper clips, we'll see how it performs when firing and feeding. Let me know any suggestions or comments you may have.

I went out to the range with my friend, ValhallaGardian, and my dad to sight in our rifles. It took damn near the whole time to sight in the SGWorks kit because I was all over the place and couldn't find where my bullets were landing. After 50 rounds, I was finally on paper, then I handed the rifle over to Valhalla and jumped on the camera to get a few action shots. More to come as we get this system dialed in. The gun worked FLAWLESSLY, not one single jam. A side note, however, that steel magazine I was using was fed HP rounds and worked like a champ. When I tried to load it up at home with FMJ's, it jammed up tight. The curve midway down the mag caught the tip of an FMJ and I had to smack the bullet out with a dowel to release the follower. Unfortunately for me, I'm going to have to go on the lookout for another steel mag in the 10-20rnd range that will top load and feed reliably with ALL types of ammo. Oh well, you live and learn, here's the video:

Technically, left handed people can shoot it, you just have to cut the bolt handle, weld it to the other side, get a left handed top cover/shell deflector, probably change the extractor. Sure...lefties can shoot it :P. Total cost of the rifle (without the extra hardware) is $550, so well worth it for a bullpup I think.

I was laughing at the commentary in the first video. "That thing was REALLY on there!" Ah...the call of the first time Com-Block tinkerer. All those rifles have interference fit's and the parts are all pressed together. The pins don't actually keep the parts on like some guns. In the case of these weapons all those pins really do it keep the parts from rotating should the gun be dropped or smacked into something.

You should have a sense of pride however because most people give up when they realize those guns aren't like a Glock or 1911 where you push pins and the thing falls apart.

Also on the rear sight leaf their video is pretty shitty in explaining what she is doing with the screwdriver. She isn't using the screwdriver to pry up on the sight. She is actually using the screwdriver to depress the blade spring which removes tension from the sight. That allows the sight to be manipulated out by "twisting" it so one of the nubs can now travel down and the the other nub can be slipped out, thus removing the sight.

Dude, you have no idea, I pounded that god damned FSB like I was possessed by Chris Brown and Ike Turner at the same time. I was able to depress the leaf spring, no problem, but the tolerances on the yugo rear sight were too tight and it wasn't budging unless I removed some metal. I feel great about the build, I'm just a bit PO'd about the mag issue. I can't put the original in without going over the 922r part count limit and the 30 rounder only feeds HP's. I need to look into a 10 or 20 steel mag that's built decently.

I have every idea as I build AK's. They are a bitch. No matter how many you do, they are still a bitch. I have a press and all the correct tools and it's still a bitch.

As for your mags...don't waste time with steel mags. NONE of the steel mags ever run correctly in 99% of SKS's for some reason. The feed lips need to be reshaped and modified to get them to run half the time if you're lucky. Save yourself some time, money and frustration and get the Tapco 20rd mags. Every one I have ever run in any SKS has run perfectly.

I hear you, I do have a tapco, my only issue is that I want the ability to top-load with stripper clips. I tried modifying the tapco, but it just won't go. If I want to use the original box mag, I'll have to get a new piston and gas tube to hit the 10 part mark. What a pain in the ass law.
