Anyone know a guy with a grinder and a chainsaw who could take out a couple of stumps in King County / east side?

Before I go rent a grinder thought I'd ask.

Good to ask. Up here I found a dude for $180 (to give you a point of reference) for two massive (3+ft OD) cottonwood stumps + two smaller wild cherry stumps (1 ft or so). Ground to mulch, way deep.

I gave him $200. I figured well worth the money vs. pulling/dynamite/renting a grinder.

Bonus I love watching!

Don’t rent a grinder. They suck. Well worth it to pay to get it ground out.

My neighbor rented one recently to remove a fairly small stump. He spent all evening fighting that thing, and wasn't too happy.

Based on what I saw that day, your advice seems solid. thumbsup

Damn. OK. Well I guess I'll be calling around! The rentals are not cheap either.

I am seriously considering a putting a cinder block ring around it, filling it with charcoal, getting a full bottle of charcoal lighter, and some marshmallows. Apparently it's illegal in Washington, though, so I would never do that.

36" diameter and for cooking or religious purposes is the legal line. Not one city ordinance, municipality, law , or otherwise can stop that from happening.

You wanna cast a spell because your a Wiccan....36" diameter and your good.

It is difficult to fully burn out a stump, best luck is late summer when the ground around it is pretty dry too. I did it in my front yard here, and was lucky enough for it to continue to burn underground for quite some time too. Mabey drill a big hole down the center and put a bit of thermite or similar in it to get it really rolling.

I have removed stumps by fire. First I let it dry out a bit and then I drilled it full of holes and then filled the holes with cooking oil and let it soak. After a couple weeks I built a fire and cooked my meals on it. Made some tasty meals.

Renting a big huge digger sounds like much more fun.

Make up some thermite, at 5000 degrees (more or less) it'll burn it out fast. Drill some big holes in the center as deep as you can and as close together as possible. Be prepared and clear the area of anything combustible. Once lit it has got to burn out on its own, I don't think it can be put out. It also throws out a lot of ultraviolet light and it's really bright, don't look at it.
