Thanks for the heads up, I just checked, and you're correct. A lot of places have it for $11/20 with free shipping above 30$ or so...

An 8" barrel with a can is about as long as a 16" though. I could shave a few inches by using my 9mm can.

The tiny cans I've been seeing, like 3", use wipes, which is a big no-no with HP ammunition.. I'll have to keep looking..

So far the omega 9k and Ti-rant 9 are in the lead, and priced decently.

The Ti-RANT 9 is an awesome can. I've had mine for 4 years now and I still can't find anything to complain about yet.

I'd stay away from an AR-9 simply because it will be long and heavy, and you probably will end up spending more than you want to. I know that was the case with my AR-9 build. I really enjoy shooting it, but it's hardly compact, especially with an 8" can on it.

The gas in the face is significant too if you put rounds downrange with any semblance of speed. Compounded with a can. That was one of the driving factors for me to go Scorpion.

I have shot others' suppressed AR-9s where gas in the face was a problem, but for some reason it's not an issue on mine. When I was doing research before the build, I read that it can be reduced by using an AR-10 carbine buffer spring, so that's what I bought. I guess the theory is that the bolt face dwells in battery longer before cycling rearward, which forces more gas down the barrel before the case is ejected. I don't know if the .308 spring is actually the reason why I don't experience gas blowback, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I don't get gas blowback, no ar10 spring.
?? Iunno

I think I have a heavier and different length 9mm specific buffer though.

If you're going sub-sonic, then you really should be looking at 45acp. 230 grain is a lot more energy than 147.

You'd be surprised. With modern technology, the margin between 9mm and 45 is pretty slim, in terms of stopping power..

Each has their advantages/disadvantages.

Yes, .45 does have a lot more energy, but 9mm 147gr HST has proven itself.

EDIT: Not to mention, finding a sub gun in .45 that's fairly inexpensive is hard to do. Unless I want a jamomatic..

My vote is for a souped up CZ Scorpion with a small k can on a 9" barrel. The Omega K suppressor being a sweet example.

Plain Jane scorpion with a side folder is under 18" and some folders allow for shooting with the stock folded.
You are far over thinking the need for a can. I have shot 300 win mag with no hearing protection and I'm not deaf. A can is nice but not required and just one more thing to deal with.

If you are worried about the zombie apocalypse get a belt fed AR with a FA rated can and a tin foil hat. You'll be the first one the zombies eat.

I'm of the same opinion. You end up with a full size/weight weapon that could have had the range and power of a rifle, but doesn't. They're also about a hand's breadth longer than anything that takes a magazine through the grip, for a given barrel length.

This why me and others recommend the CZ Scorpion, small/compact size, lots of brace options, cheap 30 round mags, reliable, and just plain looks good. Its a keeper for me.

I appreciate everyone's input...

Armslist has quite a few CZ Scorpions, locally, for $700ish... I can either grab one of those, and spent a couple hundred more on mods, or wait a couple months until CZ releases their mini, for more money, with all the mods already done...

First thing... Who the EFF designed the trigger on the Evo? I've felt bullpup triggers that were better than what the evo has.. Ugh.. Love the side charger, and the ergonomics are great... But that trigger... has got to go...
