I went with a 308 slinging 168gr SMK's my first year. It was what I had and it worked well on steel for the class. However, when it came to busting the boomers, it didn't do well. I was poking holes in the boxes and watching the material trickle out.
However, it probably wasn't all the caliber and bullets as it turned out that batch of boomers wasn't the greatest.
The following year I rebarreled to 260 and went with 123gr Amax. Much, much better performance.
I like the 123gr bullets over the 140gr - faster (seems to set off the boomers better), flatter, and pretty much the same amount of wind drift.
Now with the suppressor, there's virtually no recoil.
Time to get off my butt one of these days and start loading up some ammo for this year.
