One guy was "inspecting the rifle when it 'went off'".

The man said he didn't know what happened.
I am going to go out on a limb here and guess making sure it wasn't loaded was not on his inspection checklist.

I bet....let's see, 61 year old that was shot didn't know what happened, and 35 year-old was 'inspecting' the gun....

The incident unfolded at about 12:30 a.m. when police responded to a 911 call about shots fired in the....
First....My Grandfather used to say nothing good happens after ten pm.....most assuredly at 12:30 am there was either drugs or alcohol involved. Especially if theyre "checking out" firearms at that time.
Second.... the report says "Shots Fired"......welp if there was more than one...it'll be even more suspicious.

No matter how many rounds are fired, they call it "shots fired".
After all two guns, and a brick of .22LR ammo is called an "arsenal & a stockpile of ammo".

Never heard of anyone getting shot unless a gun 'went off'.
