No membership required. Best way to get started is show up to a setup day, help make the course, and then do safety check and practice. A few of us practice regularly and you could link up with us then. I am usually at Paul Bunyan every Tuesday evening.

If available, stop by the match there tomorrow night and see what it’s like. I’ll be there and everyone is always very friendly. If you want more information, just shoot me a PM.

Great question. I don't understand how to start getting involved.

I don't shoot USPSA, but I'll try to help:

1) No, you don't generally need to be a member of the range. USPSA coordinates with the range to hold their matches, and you work directly with USPSA.

2) You need to be comfortable enough with your gun and your gear to be SAFE. Beyond that, if you want to do this, JUST GET OUT THERE. Don't watch Loke's videos and say to yourself, "oh crap, I need a ton of practice, maybe I'll do it another time." As long as you're safe, just get your ass out there, and do what Yukonjon said. Just show up, even if it's just to watch for a match.

Yes, you might finish last. But remember: Nobody gives a shit except you. Go slow, be safe, have fun, and eventually you'll shoot just like Loke. Okay, maybe not. But just get out there and get started, these guys are really welcoming and would love to have you.

We had at least 5 new shooters at tonight’s match. It’s very shooter friendly.

Just found out they are creating a match this Sunday too. If you can help setup Friday morning, their will be people there to help you get started and do a safety check. Possibly even Saturday morning too.

Just bring what you have and you’ll figure out the rest. If anyone needs equipment or a belt setup I could help with that too.

Side note.... maybe I’ll write up a how to get started thread now that I am shooting PRS, USPSA, Steel challenge, and some IDPA.

Thanks, both of you. My question was more based on assuming I wouldn't be allowed to 'just show up'. I'm still traumatized from living in California I guess. Also I know the weapon I want to use would disqualify me.

But I'm happy to be somewhere Friday and help move things around or whatever.

Be aware that during (and before) a match the range is "cold". It's fine to wear your holstered pistol *as long as there is no ammo, or magazine in it*.
Tell the first person you see "I'm new, please direct me to the Match Director, I'd like to participate/watch please". You'll be fine. You'll be asked if your gun is loaded, then walked through everything you need to know to shoot or watch, as appropriate.
Everyone there was the new guy once.

If there is one, online pre-registration will be at https://practiscore.com
Click "upcoming matches" then input your area in the "search" box.

I definitely can't participate unless I buy a different gun. Hopefully I can find an alternative way to practice moving, acquiring and discerning targets safely.

Also, if you have Facebook, you should join the WA State Facebook Group and ask questions, there are no such thing as silly questions. Everybody wants to help :)
