The Plantation Rifle Range in Whatcom county has been closed since I believe Sept/Oct '22 for environmental remediation, 50 years of lead accumulation posed a potential environmental health hazard to the nearby salmon-bearing stream. I have been checking the county website periodically for updates but haven't seen anything really new since fall '22. There was a public comment period in Feb of this year but the linked document produces a 404 error.
Does anyone in the area or connected to the project know if they are still on track for the projected re-open in Sept?

The Cascadia Daily News article was informative regarding the current state of the facilities, more than I can say about the county website. Thank you. Hopefully they can keep on track and the facility open with current budgets. I definitely would pay a higher range fee if it helped to keep the facilities open.

You, I, members here and beyond letting them know we will pay range fees might help. Note they say the lead levels in the water don't exceed the limit.

It makes a lot of difference who owns it on their resources.

It makes a lot of difference who owns it on their resources. I THINK Whatcom County owns the property.

Quick update from what I could find. Per the Dept. of Ecology site, the range status is Awaiting Cleanup. Reviewing the '23 Q3 project update, they are in the Planning and Pre-Design phase. According the estimated timeline, the project will not be completed until the end of '25. Hopefully that's a typo on the report but who knows. https://apps.ecology.wa.gov/cleanupsearch/site/15182https://wa-whatcomcounty.civicplus.com/ ... mental-Rem Really unfortunate .
