Word to the wise, don't ever turn your back on your firearms when people like this are around. Or your vehicle for that matter. I got turned back last Tuesday due to snow but I was also in a 2wd piece of shit rental car. I've never had to threaten anyone, but I make sure to stare hard at anyone not shooting and sitting watching me shoot. I make sure to ALWAYS have at least one loaded weapon, and I do wait to the end to pick up my brass (in part so as not to build in bad habits, and in part so they sit around for a couple hrs and then are disappointed :D ). If I'm somewhere that might have sketchy people around, I never go downrange without a loaded something, usually my .454 Casull in a shoulder rig. I feel kind of dorky wearing it, but there's no mistaking the giant gun I have on my chest which hopefully discourages any stupid behavior and I make a point of checking it before I go downrange to make sure it's loaded, and to show the tweakers (if any) that it's loaded as well. It's worked thus far, but it's also been a while since I've been somewhere other than a range. Last time I encountered anyone who got my hackles up was several years ago up at Jack's Pass in Skykomish. There were four guys up there who were probably just a bit drunk. They weren't raising hell, but they were shooting their 30-06 across the valley and other stupid things. I made a little show of strapping on the .454 Casull so they could see, I let a couple of them shoot a magazine each from my GSG-5 (that I no longer have), and we had zero problems with them after that. They also nicely left behind all their brass when they left, which I think I sold for about $30 or so.

Both are good questions, wish I had the answer. I saw it posted on Brie's Skagit man bunker as "closed until further notice." DNR can probably help provide more details.

we went up there today but there was a sign by the road going to the pit that said horses only beyond that point so we turned back not wanting to get into trouble. Can we use that road?

Let me shoot off an email to my contact at DNR and I'll report back here. They have asked me to host another clean up this spring, so keep your eyes open for that.

thanks for your help. Let me know when the barbecue and cleanup is so I can help. Would not mind meeting some local shooters. It has been about 40 years since I owned a rifle and I need a place to shoot something besides paper targets.

I believe that sign is referring to the actual trails, not the improved road. There is another sign near that one about the discover pass, ergo vehicles.

thanks. I noticed that but didn't pay attention. I have a discover pass so I should be good. Is that DNR property up in that area?
