What if we contacted the Puyallup Indian tribe about hosting a gun show in one of their conference/Bingo facilities? Maybe they would be interested in building a facility to host gun shows and similar events that the city turns their nose up at?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe State, City & County Laws apply on the reservation, only Federal Laws.

if 594 passes, we could just meet on tribal land to make the trade......The State would have no jurisdiction involving these events

Guess it's time to start having "swap meets" on city sidewalks....

we all meet up before hand to swap a firearm with each other. Then we stand in front of city hall to swap them back.

BINGO.....

Remember.....they did not say that you can't do a trade within the city limits of Tacoma.

They did however say that when a venue is rented that is controlled by the City of Tacoma, they will not rent to the individual or group unless they follow the rules for the venue (ie private property) which in this case would require some type of background checks.

I have stated for years that ALL gunshow promoters should adopt a membership system that requires at least some sort of an initial background check.

The difference is that I would like to see ALL promoters get together and agree to recognize the other promoter's "membership badge"

This would eliminate the need to belong to multiple "gunshows/organizations".

Will it ever happen.....probably not.

If a system like this was in place, maybe the Tacoma Dome shows would be able to continue and avoid the current City Council actions.

AND NO......I am not promoting WAC or any other specific group and/or promoter.

Just an idea that I have been spouting about for years....just my .02.

Wes Knodel was quoted as saying the new rule was not needed and invasive but that he would follow their rules.
ie he wants the $$$.

As someone who has worked in many guns shops as well as managed them, can you then please tell me how you will accomplish this feat? I know that as a Licensed dealer I must put the firearm into my bound books in order to do a transfer. How is this feat going to happen between 2 individuals? Who is going to do the background check at, say the Tacoma Dome?

to me
The gun show promoter will be responsible for ensuring that background checks happen with all gun sales as part of their contractual agreement with the city that allows the show to happen on city-owned or managed property.

Wes Knodel, the promoter, is from Oregon which already has universal background checks. He is very familiar with how this works and has extensive experience. Per my discussions with him, a licensed dealer can perform the background checks, or there will be a third party on site to conduct them for private sales.

3rd Party aka WAC
I forsee WAC stepping and saying, "We'll do the BGC for a fee, and then you will know that that person has passed."

To which I would respond, "I have a valid State issued CPL. I don't need another BGC."

Getting in/out of the car is a hassle for me - can we do some sort of 'drive by' meet (one car's driver-side door next to another car's driver-side door - like cops on break)?

Or maybe moonlighting Sonic hamburger car hops on roller skates going from car to car? "I'd like five boxes of MiniMags and a double cheeseburger basket with a Mountain Dew . . . ."
:thumbsup2:

A question about WAC BGC... Is it done only when you get membership? Is it required to renew it every year? It seems they tout that they do BGC on every sale, but they don't do they? Also if they don't require the background check each year, couldn't you enter a state where you might not pass and still buy a weapon years after you cleared?

To be a member, it's done when you join.
If you already have a CPL then they copy down the info.
To renew, I don't remember.
If you buy from an FFL guy that requires a 4473, well you know.
You have a badge and Steve walks up and wants to sell you something, you pay him & he gives you your new toy and you walk.

You are all over analyzing this issue

Just remember the most important thing about this whole discussion.....

PERCEPTION IS IN MANY CASES MORE POWERFUL THAN REALITY.

I think this one fits that saying perfectly....especially in dealing with the Tacoma situation.

I paid $53.25 for my membership badge. It was issued by the State of Washington and included a background check with fingerprints. That should be all that is needed, at most.
