I figured I would post a thread with some photos of some of the custom cerakote jobs I have done. Had a few private messages asking about cerakote so heres some pictures and a short break down for those who aren't up to speed on cerakote. Cerakote is a baked on ceramic based coating, it is not a paint. Cerakote is far more durable than most coatings because of its ceramic base. Like all firearm finishes it can be scratched but will take more abuse than standard bluing or duracoat or any of the others out there. UV and rust resistance doesn't get any better than cerakote and as far as colors go there is no limit to what can be done.

This was a fun one. The Zombie green is incredibly bright but the black battleworn coat over the top really toned it down

Microslick is a bit of a performance upgrade. The coating is non stick and acts as a self lubricating coat. I ran 300 rounds of the most dirty, cheap low grade ammo I could find through my AR and was able to wipe the BCG clean with a dry cloth after.

Good stuff, thanks for posting! I think my favorites are the tomahawk and the tungsten Glock.

The SOG was one of my first projects when i started learning how to cerakote. My son asked if we could do something cool with his tomahawk and that’s what we ended up with. Right now I have a Ruger 300winchester in the oven curing. It was exposed to water and the bluing didn’t stop it from getting some fairly major rust. Once I’m done it will be like new and ready for many more years of abuse in hunting trips

This guy got exposed to moisture and by the time it’s owner noticed the damage was done. Here’s a few before and after shots of a rust removal and refinish job

Ya the guys hunting trailer sprung a leak and he caught it to late. There were a couple other casualties but he wanted to see how this one turned out before deciding on the others. Looks like I’ll be fixing a couple more lol

Nice work BigDad. I have a barrel or two that just need a touch up from a safe scrape (not mine safe!) Recommendation for a bluing that touches up areas smaller than 10mm?

I’ve played around with bluing a bit, tried a few different products and I’ve never really liked the color match. Always seemed to be off a bit and stand out. Personally I’d strip the barrel and do it in cerakote. Essentially all bluing is is a stain in the metal and adds very little protection from rust. Over time as it wears and fades it is less likely to have much in the way of protection. Cerakote on the other hand is a ceramic based, baked on coating that looks great, is very durable and protects from UV and weather better than anything else on the market. Something as simple as coating a barrel can be quite inexpensive, be done relatively fast and last for years. If you are interested, message me a couple pictures and I can get you an idea of the time and cost. Right now I’m prepping a lever action that had some fading in the original bluing. That ones going to be restored back to new as soon as I finish the AR’s I have hanging in the booth
