I'm sure this is old hat on here by now from newbs, but my piece just got delivered to the FFL. Hearing all the pro-SSN# / no-SSN# talk on the Form 4473 reasons still has got me undecided only minutely. Maybe using my SSN could make it go without a hitch, but I'm sure even w/o it it would also. Given my situation as a non-CCP holder l would have to wait 5 days anyway (fucking fed working days, IE more like 7-8 days I'm sure). I'm 98.9732% sure I don't want my shit in some possibly dumb, shady or snitch pawnshop owner's log until Ragnarök or some other more possible bullshit involving some other "agencies" "happens" to "come up". So if I'm being tinfoil hat guy say so, otherwise I think its a no-brainer...?

If I have your full name I can find out what your SSN is. Also, news flash... The government already knows your SSN.
It isn't hard. Privacy today is a veneer. An illusion.

NO CPL means you have to wait anyway... I would not put it in.

Drew, he's not worried about the Feds having his SSN, he's worried about the FFL.. All those paper records are a identity thief's wet dream.

My first sentence covered that. They'll have his full name. That's all you need.

You are already putting your name and all other related info on there......why not. Thats the way I see it anyways. The feds already have a crap load of info on me anyways (military service, etc) so putting a SSN on another piece of federal paper really doesnt bother me. YMMV thumbsup

It isn't hard to remember when there are 9 "6"'s in it.

Plus, with all the corporate selling of info and all the other forms you have to put a SSN on, I am sure more than enough crooks have easy access to my SSN. Like you said, its not that hard for a crook to get your numbers......unfortunately.

GODDAMNIT you are right I guess...maybe I could still be safer than the low-hanging fruit, like being faster than the guy next to you while being chased by a vampire horde...but screw it. You should have used the Morpheus "what if I told you" meme.

The trick is to have crappy enough credit so that no theif will WANT to steal your identity. That's how I avoid identity theft.

If hb1588 passes and you buy from an individual I would leave it off as they get to keep the 4473 forum.

My thoughts exactly. Give it a try without the SSN. If there is a problem, then next time provide it.

I never provide my SSN, and I've never had a problem ... but some folks have just the opposite experience.
