Well went in today to apply for a new social security card. I misplaced mine about a decade ago so I figure it was time to get a new one.
Well it really did not dawn on me until I walked up that its a Federal Agency and they take their business pretty seriously. Armed guard to check you in and they went with the usual questions... Weapons, knives pepper spray. Shoot I have all the above plus some. Turned around and emptied my carry into my car and the rest of all the items... Came back and all was good.
In and out within 10 minutes.
The guard was very cool about it when I showed him my CPL. It's no good in Federal property but it answered his question without blurting out to everyone that I had a gun around everyone.
So just a friendly reminder for those going to the SSA for whatever reason. Leave it in the car.

Played it safe and left that in the car too. Never know if they would misconstrue a Russian piece of metal with a pointish end...
Figured I play it safe and emptied everything except my car key and ID.
The design and layout of the lobby was quite interesting. You're seated facing a wall with a monitor. Once you are called you walk to the far ends (either far left or right) depending on who you see. Kind of like a bank but not so friendly and open. More like a prison to some extent.
Flow was good. Just wasn't expecting all this to simply get a new Social Security card.

I'll just ask the dumb question that's probably been covered hundreds of times...
Of ALL places where The Right to Keep and Bear Arms should be recognized, the federal government property stands above the rest as most restrictive.
Do I have my understanding of how the Bill of Rights is supposed to work backwards?
I can understand how a PRIVATE individual can ask someone not to enter HIS/HER property with a firearm, but the .gov ?!
I can just picture you like Gandalf, Gimli and Aragorn disarming before entering Theoden's Hall.
They let you keep your staff, didn't they sir?
Edit: I forgot the Elf... Legolas.

The Federal Government knows how the public thinks about them. To them it's just a defensive move. You never know when some senior citizen is going to go berserk over a SS Check not arriving on time I'm surprised that they don't make us old farts check our canes and dentures before entry. (BTW, I may be an old fart but I have neither ---- yet.)

I was driving by that SS office the other day, and saw some disgruntled SS customer walking back inside.
