So today I met a friend at WCA. I rode my Goldwing with my gun bag and ammo in the trunk and tossed my tennis racquet zip cover over my shoulder that contained my AR pistol. While at the range I shot 100% of my ammo.
So after the range we went to the local watering hole and I locked the AR in the tennis racquet cover in his trunk.
My question is since I had no ammo and no magazine was in the tennis racquet case with the AR, is it still illegal to bring it in the bar portion of a restaurant? It probably is which is why I left it in my friends trunk but I'm looking for clarification.

And the answer is???

No because the RCW states firearm. Not loaded or unloaded.

Pop the upper off and keep it in two pieces. Since 594 redefined firearm as being able to launch a projectile by explosive force, the torn apart gun is clearly no longer a firearm. IANAL, YMMV, batteries not included. Offer not good in all 50 states.

Actually that's the exact reason it was in the trunk. Makes it tough for a motorcyclist to have a beer...

Sorry, I misunderstood the question. It is illegal. You can not bring it into a bar. An opinion on the new definition of a firearms is not out and probably won't be for a while.
