My Father-In-Law is interested in buying a used Benelli Nova from a guy who lives in Sumner. My FIL lives in Battle Ground. The seller wants to do the transfer at I-5 Guns in Lacey. My FIL is wondering if there's any way that my wife or I can pick up the shotgun for him so that he doesn't have to make the long drive. Since we're family, can I buy the gun and then gift it to him, or would my wife have to do it? My FIL can legally own a gun.

According to the Feds, neither of you can get it for him.

Yep, and there's a SCOTUS ruling to back that up.

Ok. For some reason, I thought there was a provision for purchasing a gun as a gift for an immediate family member.

Gifts are legal.

What you're doing is not a gift.

Whoah! I'm not "doing" anything. Just wanted to know if there were any options.

I'll just tell him that if he wants the shotgun, he'll have to drive his happy ass up to Lacey and meet the guy at I-5 Guns.

Thanks for the info, guys.
