I'm having some trouble understanding the AK build process. I've watched videos, read a bunch on AK Builder and AK Files but I just can't seem to wrap my head around it all. Is anyone here fimilar with the process? Can I buy you a coffee or a couple of beers and pick your brain? Thanks in advance!

I have done 6 rivet builds, maybe I can help.

I was planning on a rivet build myself. So, my main question has to do with welding in the rails. The plan is to do the build with a barreled kit from AK Builder. Am I understanding correctly That I'll use the trunnion still attached to the barrel to line up my rails? At that point I'm mark the rails, spot weld them on, then remove the pin from the trunnion and rivet in the trunnion and barrel?

With melonite barreled receivers from Palmetto for $260ish, is it worth assembling your own receiver still? I haven't priced one in a long time, so I'm out of the loop on the DIY side.

All the builds I did involved a de-milled AK kit and a New finished receiver. Never did mess with flats and spot welds, too much trouble and room for error in my opinion.

Its not a cast receiver, a cast trunnion possibly, but the receiver is sheet metal.

Bumping this up. I'm now looking to rent or borrow some tools. Got my welding done and now need to finish this build. Thanks!

Has it been heat treated? I'm guessing you mainly need the rivet press. I would be interested going in on the jaws for the bolt cutters you can get. I have the bolt cutters.
