Post Help Me Fix My Gun!
Hey folks, so I went out to shoot my Glenfield Model 60 for the first time yesterday and I was running into a bunch of problems. Before you guys say it, I had fully taken the rifle apart and detail cleaned every part. It seemed like 1 in 5 rounds would either not feed, not extract or have a week strike on the rim. I got some crazy situations happening as well, a couple of times it wouldn't extract yet still feed a round into the chamber, smashing the spent cartridge and ruining the fresh one in the process. I wish I had taken some pics. It is one of the Glenfield pre 82 models, and I don't know how easy it will be for me to find parts for it. Could this be because of improper lubrication?

The extraction issue is going to be a weak spring, missing or worn plunger or worn extractor. Weak strikes would be a worn or broken firing pin. The failure to feed could be a lube problem or a weak magazine spring.

Parts are readily available. http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Pro ... atid=11760

Lets know what you figure out. I have a friend's Marlin model 60 that is having similar problems. I just haven't had the time to peek at it the last few days to try and figure out the problem.

Yeah, TA knows his way around a gun. He dispensed some awesome gunsmithing advice to me and FMJ 911 yesterday. thumbsup

To me it sounds like you have a few issues all centered around the bolt. I would remove the assembly and look at every surface of it for signs of interference or jamming. Worn or peened edges around the extractor or corners where it's impinging on foreign material that's hardened in a corner, etc. If the bolt is not going fully into battery the firing pin won't get a full strike. Likewise the extractor won't go fully into it's relief and grip the rim of the cartridge.

I'd get a dental pic or two that can reach into every corner of the extractor relief, around the chamber, etc. Don't just settle for a quick run through with the pick, get serious and work your way down to a shiny surface. Then you know it's metal, not just hard carbon.

Start out by making sure that the bolt is free to travel without obstruction, no matter how small. The smallest things can be the biggest part of one's problems as well as being the hardest to spot.
