Mods, please feel free to move this thread if it`s in the wrong forum. I bought a bunch of ammo from SG a while back and while looking over it all today I noticed a problem with one 2 3/4" shell of Nobelsport LE buckshot. There are two fairly large sized dents in the brass, and each shell has a bunch of weird grey specks inside, and some loose in the box as well, almost like how glitter gets everywhere. A buddy suggested it could be somesort of microdesiccant but SG said nothing about it on their website. My main question is if the dented shell is safe to shoot. The weird specks are in the red ovals. There was something else too. In a 30-round box of IMI M855, the ammo all looked fine except one round. That one had a number 2 printed on the side. Has anyone else seen that? Any other numbers? Anyone know what it might mean? The cartridge itself seems fine, just has a little 2 on it.

That's a good question. I've found the odd round and just thrown it out (actually just gave it to a reloader to pull) since the few cents isn't worth the risks.
IF it's a lot of rounds, contact the maker and see what's up.

Wait, which are you talking about? It`s only the one 12-gauge shell and I`ve heard that the number 2 isn`t totally uncommon.

I doubt that that shotgun shell will chamber but since I load 12 gage i would run it through my antique sizer die mounted in my old RCBS reloader 3 and it would be fine.....you had better toss it after you cut it and remove the powder... as for the number 2 I have no clue.

The 12-gauge shell actually chambers and ejects, much to my surprise.

"The weird specks are in the red ovals." Huh? I don't see any red ovals.
I'm usually pretty willing to shoot suspect (banged up) ammo, but that round with the 2 would worry me unless you found a good explanation. Who knows if it's part of a test batch or something.

Meh, I've shot 12ga ammo that looked like it was from the 60's. If it chambers don't sweat it.

The shot shell looks like someone chambered it in an auto or pump loader and the shell started in cockeyed.
As for the #2, could be a round or piece of brass that an inspector pulled, marked, measured, then tossed back in the production line.
If really worried, just toss em.

Yea if the shell chambers your good, just check it after and make sure nothing broke off. The oval stuff in there is probably a filler.
