In another thread I said I'd need couple days to post a write up but, I don't care much for procrastination and the first one I made was just OK. So, I made another one. This all started in my mind yesterday when I was sighting in my 6.8 AR and my Savage 10 Scout. The 6.8 has an optic on a cantilever and my eyes lineup with the optic as they should with a good cheek weld. This is my first AR with glass and I'm happy with it. What I also learned was that my cheek weld on my .308 was very poor when compared to the AR. I looked around on the Internet at my options ranging from $20-$200+ for slip on cheek risers to a new stock. Well I wasn't interested in paying for anything so I looked up how to make your own and decided that's what I would do with whatever I could find around the house. Starting with a giveaway conference bag, cut the liner out and remove the foam. You'll need enough to flex over the stock and this was just big enough. I knew from the first on that I would need four layers to get the height. Before you go cutting, fold it over until you have enough layers for the height you need. Take note. Then pull your bolt back and out. This will show you how much room you need to remove your bolt. Add an inch or two. I folded the foam over the stock to see how much I would need on each side. I then started making my cuts. Two were the same size. One smaller and another even smaller. Then I decided that I wanted the top two layers to be the same size. I laid out gaff tape sticky side up like a sheet of wrapping paper. I wanted wrap over the sides so it took eight strips. Then I folded it over and trimmed it. I then closed up those seems with more gaff tape. I did a few test checks on along the way, bending it over the stock before I put too much tape over it and loose flexibility. Since there was already Velcro on the stock from version 1, I placed a strip on top of it so when I install the piece, I get just right. The over pieces on put on the piece so they would all install at the same time and I wouldn't have to think as much about lining it up. Put the soft side on the stock. Before installing, wipe down the stock a couple times with alcohol and dry it. You don't want oil on the stock when you're trying to get a good adhesion. Time to install. Press hard! The edges pulled up a bit but, the more I pressed, the more the Velcro stuck to each other.

Now you just need to finish cutting that bag up to sew up a cover for it, and viola's yer auntie!

Nice work man! Looks very functional. You're mounting your rifle a little high though. Do you usually shoot that rifle from shoulder/bipod/bench? Might want to try lining up behind it from your usual shooting position to see how it feels. My cheek riser height varies a bit between bench and prone shooting.
I wonder if you could slide some loose strips of the padding under the completed riser to shim it up and down.

Gaff or Gaffers Tape is industry standard adhesive tape for the entertainment world. We use it for all kinds of things. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaffer_tapeI end up shooting from a variety of positions due to practice for real life. That's my primary hunting rifle, one of two. Last year's deer was harvested with that rifle from a standing position. It's never been comfortable to shoot with since I had a non scout type optic mounted and having something to compare with told me why. That rifle was meant to be a scout rifle with low sights and optional glass mounted to the OEM rail. I've made it into something else it wasn't supposed to be. Perhaps I could lower the scope with lower rings but, I just remounted it using new rings and maybe could have used the next lowest ring height at .87 instead of .97 I wasn't about to buy another set of rings again. As I mentioned before, when I rest my head on the AR, everything lines up. So I went with that some type of line up.

Thanks for the compliments. I suggest to anyone that's going to do something like this, don't try to wrap all the layers over. You only need height on two sides and it will be easier to flex to the shape you want.

Looks really good. I love these types of DIY practical stuff to save $.
One suggestion to improve it. Velcro tends to give out under constant pulling and it appears this is a design that is fighting against the velcro. You might find or acquire for nearly free 2 little nylon straps or leather belts to loop over the stock and and cinch these down over the riser if you think the velcro might not hold it in place. If you're like me, you probably have a pile of unused suitable straps in a box somewhere...

Yes, excellent work. My favorite part is you used a SharePoint bag to make a gun accessory.

I made one too, 'cept I put a few strips packing tape on the stock to stick the velcro to. When I put it up for sale it peeled right off, along with the velcro sticky stuff. No residue.
