Post Labor Day Taste Test
We're going to have samples of emergency rations available on Labor Day: Monday, September 3rd, 2012 at Southwest Washington Surplus.

We'll have samples of emergency ration bars:

Datrex
Mainstay
Mayday Industries

Freeze-dried backpacker foods:

Mountain House

and MREs:

MREStar
Stop by and try a taste, and get a free hotdog too. The food stand will be open from 12 Noon until 3 PM. :thumbsup2:

We're located at:

2700 NE Andresen Rd Suite G3
Vancouver WA 98661

We're in Andresen Plaza, on Andresen Rd between Fourth Plain and 18th Street, in the warehouse-style building toward the back.

LOL. It'll be sample sizes of MREs and emergency rations for taste comparisons, but since it'll be lunch time, a free hot dog never hurts. :)

Personally, I eat MREs sometimes rather than go to the DFAC, particularly on a NATO base. Modern MREs sure as hell aren't C-rats and they aren't MRE mark I either. They're actually pretty decent, for the most part. Certainly as good as bachelor pad microwavable meals. I personally think the Mayday bars taste a lot like Clif Bars. You could get tired of them pretty quickly if they're all you got, but you could eat them for breakfast for quite a while before you can't stand them. I'm ordering the Datrex right now and haven't personally tried it, but they got a reasonably good review in Popular Mechanics, and they are rated for wider temperature variations and longer storage than most of the others. They're designed to be emergency life raft rations, stored on deck in those big-ass auto-inflate raft containers in all kinfs of weather from the tropics to the arctic.
