I love these things.
Only problem is I call BS on some of those costing less than $500.

Cars have to be road legal and insured, they should be cheap, fun or impractical meaning that it doesn’t have to be $500 cuz nobody checks. The way to “win” or be awarded the “SCEPTER” is by bringing the crappiest or most emblematic car, so you can’t cheat by spending more. You can bring your built 4WD if you want to help with recovery, just make sure you have a radio, first aid kit, fire extinguisher and a tow strap. The number one rule is “don’t be a dick”.

So what they’re saying is: We’ve totally got a shot

I know this isn’t gun related but a WAguns build could be a lot of fun

I've wanted to do this for a while. There's no actual $500 limit, just an informal challenge.

I've got three vehicles that would probably qualify but I don't want to give up. One of those being a '94 Celica that's in really good shape...

My neighbor happens to have a late 90's Celica that he pretty much wants gone. He says it's a runner, it moved to where it is under it's own power. I air up the tires from time to time but haven't seen it move.

Because of my affinity for the 6th generation Celica I have parts and can probably turn it into a decent rally car.

That's one option. I'm open to others.

Dates are July 13-15

I probably have things from work (spare wheels, tires, misc items) that I could use beyond all of the random 4g63 things I have at home

Quote:
The Gambler 500 stands for stewardship of public lands, in 2017 we held the world’s largest trail cleanup, we hauled out couches, carpet, appliances and 80 yards worth of trail and shooting trash. Our partners awarded an AR15, Yakima racks, Benchmade knives, Ooakforge slingshots and much more to the people who represented Gambler pride of land ownership. Gambler participants also auctioned off 10 cars to benefit the Children’s Cancer Association. The underlying theme being if you’re going to go have the most fun in the world it should be paired with doing some good.

The short and sweet list to get this thing together:

1. Car/vehicle/POS- looks like we have some options
2. Drivers for said car/vehicle/POS- at least two but three would be best
3. Support vehicle for said car/vehicle/POS- It would be best to trailer our 'race car' to the start as well as have something to carry gear in. I have a one ton van, can add a middle seat to hold more people.

The race description is pretty vague but the general theme is to go and have fun. It looks like they 'navigate' up to Sisters and camp, then 'navigate' back to Portland the next day. I think it's going to take at least 5 people to make it happen.

I'm not seeing a lot of info on the website about this year. Looks like everything is on Faceplant. Will check it out and report back.

The OC gang has been looking at running it this year. Expecting it to be a lot of fun.
