I was picturing you slicing off the bottom inch and throwing it away, the using the top 90% of the jug and balancing it on its cap.

One suggestion. Mount your powder measure to a block of wood, 6x6x6, so you can move it around the bench, out of the way as needed.

Very cool . . . your first reloads! Now I'm almost afraid to ask this, but I'm going to anyhow. You have quite a few rounds there; are they all the same charge? Care to share it with us? Typically you'd make a few at the starting charge, then a few a little hotter, then a few a little hotter still, etc. until you get to where you want to stop. If you just made a bunch of rounds at something above the starting charge, I'd suggest going back and making some more at lower charges . . . which you would then shoot FIRST to check for pressure signs.

redneck zx wrote: yea my nosler book range was 4.6- 5.6 so I did 5.0 witch was the mid range in the book I know the reality is that your loads will work just fine . . . but . . . . I would suggest loading a few (3-5) rounds at 4.6, and a few at 4.8, 5.0, 5.2 and 5.4. When you go to the range, shoot the lowest charges first, then work your way up. Even though your book data *should* be good, this protects you against other things you may have inadvertently F'd up. Maybe you used too heavy a bullet, maybe you used the wrong powder, maybe you put a Superman-style crimp on the round, maybe your OAL is too short . . . all of those things can raise the pressure, so if you start at the low end and work your way up then the potential damage is minimized. It's also possible that your rounds at 5.4 will be too weak to cycle the slide, and if that's the case then you've got a lot of rounds to shoot with a single-shot.

Very nice!
With semi autos you are loading for a few things with practice ammo. #1. Properly functions the pistol. Locks the slide back after the last round, ejects and feeds ammo. #2. Recoil. Are you shooting this for fun, or is it for your wife. A light recoiling round is great for novice shooters. Think about developing one. #3. Accuracy. It is good to find an accurate light and heavy load. They have their purposes. A super fast, or slow round that isn't accurate is a waste of time, powder, primers and lead.
Have fun, read, be careful!

Did you clean out the hornady PM first, and add some kind of dry lube? As i just picked one up also and read to thoroughly clean the inside out and even wipe the inside of the container with a dryer sheet to keep static down.
