Have any?
I'm diving into casting. Or casting into diving? Or I could use dive weights....

Anyone in the south Seattle area into this and wouldn't mind a visitor while doing some casting?

Call around to some recycle centers. There was one in puyallup selling it for $1 a pound on craigslist.

I used to advertise on CL for lead. Quite a lot of wasted time driving around... Maybe you'll have better luck.
$1/pound is good price if you know the contents. If you're guessing, I'd not pay more than .80/lb
The robbers at gun shows are now at $2/lb. No.

If you go with wheel weights- never ever accidentally drop a zinc weight in there. I cried so hard and for so long that I suffered severe dehydration and collapsed.

Excellent resource : http://castboolits.gunloads.com/

Here is a link on Castboolits on how to tell the difference between zinc and lead wheel weights:

This is an easy task if one is not rushing. Seems like most things that are really worth doing are worth taking the time to do right.

I believe that used car parts yards (junkyards) also sell wheel weights. The one time I tried they were unsorted. Not even worth .25/lb for unsorted, unless you're really desperate or enjoy having buckets of zinc weights sitting around reminding you of how you spent good lead money on zinc.

I thought zinc was something you added to pure lead to make it harder?

the opposite, a small amount in either will always be there unless its distilled. but zinc will destroy lead. if you get it hot enough lead will be on the bottom and zinc will layer the top. once cooled you can separate it or scoop it out will hot (impurities) too

If I remember correctly, most states including Washington mandate non-lead weights so they are much harder to find.

I've bought it off forums and craigslist for about $1.5/pound average.

One way to get good casting metal, without having to deal with waste, alloying, etc is to buy ready to go bullet casting alloys from this company:

https://rotometals.com/bullet-casting-alloys/

Shipping is free and I believe they ship to WA tax free.

Just put the stuff in your furnace, flux, rake off dross, and cast. No having to add lead, zinc, antimony, etc then test, test, test, for the proper hardness.

$13.59 for a 5# ingot of Lyman #2. $15.xx for "Hardball". Free freight on $99.

Thanks Deadshot.
I've also noticed I can get it cheaper through Missouri Bullet company with our gun club discount for #2 Lyman. BHN 18.
$2.57 lb including shipping and I don't have to mess with the antimony or tin.
