So the ATF is now taking the position that a solvent trap is a suppressor, and if you buy a part intending to turn it into a suppressor, you have to do a form 4 rather than a form 1.

But then, if I buy pipe at home depot, or a fuel filter at Napa, with the intent to build it into a suppressor via a form 1, this would require me to do a form 4 to buy the pipe or filter. If I bought a lower with the intent to build a SBR via a form 1, I would have to do a form 4 to buy the lower. What an idiotic position.

FWIW, According to multiple comments on the video, the Flint, Michigan BATF office is saying if you went the Form 1 route, that's acceptable. Typical .gov clusterfk. Right hand doesn't know what anything else is doing and doesn't care.

Thanks for posting video Madpick. Tagged and following for a friend.

LOL.

'Told you so'..

I said years ago that they'd say they were suppressor parts, and filing a form 1 was proof of intent to turn them into suppressors, thus, a suppressor part....

Fucking bullshit, but I'm right, as usual... :D

I'm going to assume that if you purchased solvent traps (particularly from Diversified Machine), you already got a nasty letter from the ATF to turn them in.
The gist is that since the manufacturer didn't get ATF approval, so even if you actually have paperwork and paid the tax stamp for your home-made suppressor, it is now illegal.

I personally don't, but thought it was interesting topic and example of how ATF and laws can change on a whim, it's frustrating...

Stop calling it "registration".
Registration means you just inform an agency about you get something in your posession, and don't need any approval from them.

Another update:

So if the local agent says, "I don't need to talk to the ATF lawyer, I make the decisions that this guy is fine because he did a Form 1" . . . does that mean that the guy is off the hook for good? Or some jackwagon from another area, or from DC, might still decide to make an issue of it?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that question.

By that logic submitting a form 1 makes anything/everything a suppressor part

Yup.

Just like a block of aluminum is an 'unfinished receiver' which they're trying to ban.....

So how much is an attorney to act in your behalf?

Holy shootelles. $$$

Damn if you are in group 1 but dammed more if you are in group two (made something without form 1).
Group three isn’t much better than group 1.

Confused yet?

Another video update. Bottom line . . . he's still trying to get the ATF to tell him how his clients can surrender their parts.

And, absolutely no response from the ATF.

I'm not sure if the ATF's credibility can possibly drop any lower at this point.
