Known as the Triangle Pit as well as the Suicide Pit this location is well used and a great place to shoot.

Google Maps Location

Pros:
Close to Olympia
Large Shooting Area
Safe Backstop
Fairly Clean
In the Capitol Forest, close to other shooting areas.
ATV'ing, Camping etc nearby for the full weekend shooters.
Usually staffed by a volunteer named Frank. Great guy.

Cons:
History of a few irresponsible shooters, keep your third eye open.

Went there this evening. I have not been to that spot in probably 6 months or more. All I have to say is WOW!! That place was SPOTLESS!! There was not a SINGLE shotgun shell on the ground. The firing line that was once a mix of rusted brass and large rocks was now clean and flat. Impressive!!

I am pretty sure that Frank is still there daily volunteering. If it is him still doing the cleanup, he has done a hell of a job!

Stopped by there on the way home just a little bit ago for the first time since last summer. Within two minutes of getting out of the car I had a gun pointed my direction by someone not paying attention to what he was doing. Got right back in the car and left.

Each time I've been there, I've seen some pretty lousy firearm safety practices. :(

The waddell creek pit is on DNR land ? Part of Capitol forest? I'm wondering if a guy has to have a discovery pass to shoot at the pit. The pass is needed to access any DNR land.

That seems to be a grey area. Park close enough to the county road and you could argue the case that you "just broke down and were looking for assistance"

I'm curious, is that brass scavenger guy an actual forest service volunteer or is he just another guy chilling in the pit with his dog and truck?
