Re: Finally got my CNC 1911 grips going.... So, the grip itself is coming in at a measly .170". I have a set of Pearce finger groove inserts install to thicken it up a tad. Those came in at .030" giving me a total of 2 tenths. I would say that if the standard is .25" and I have the inserts going, that would put me at almost .30" on each side which would be sweet. Anywhere in the .25-.30" would be cool......I was even thinking about spot facing the panel a little bit to accept the Ruger medallion.

Re: Finally got my CNC 1911 grips going.... Finished product with 3 coats of Clear finish. Still need to correct the screw holes to be a touch larger, otherwise I'm real close with my digital file. HAve some ideas for other patterns as well. Unfortunatly I broke the one with the divets. Next laminate needs to have some layers of support fiber.

Re: Finally got my CNC 1911 grips going.... Those are nice work - I would like to do a set up with tung oil for a finish. It soaks into the wood, then hardens up. Multiple coats put a matte satin finish on the wood, seals it up, gets real hard, and is water proof. I used it on a piece of home made butcher block maple left over from doing counter tops at our old place, routed a drain groove into it, and used it as a counter matching dish rack drain board - all the dish washing water in over 5 years never did a thing to the glued up seams, or the wood. I think it would really bring out the grain of the wood, and be great for wear and tear, much less sweaty hands. Let me know when you are feeling good about knocking off some standard 1911 grips for sale - they are way nicer than commercial stuff as far as I am concerned.
