 CPL 'glitch'?
I originally applied and received it at my previous address. When I moved, I was told I didn't need to trransfer anything. The last two times I've bought a pistol from a dealer, the clearance didn't go through. It took and extra day for the feds to clear it and no one could say why. I have one of the pamphlets to send in to request whatever info they have, but the person on the phone said there was no problem with my background. It expires/renews in 7 months anyway, its just a pain in the arse when I want to make an impulse buy. Any clue?

 Re: CPL 'glitch'?
I doubt that having the wrong address on the CPL would affect anything, since there IS no process to update your address on the CPL. Mine has an old address, and many others do too. You're doing it right.

Are you .mil, ex-.mil that held secret or higher clearance? Any special security clearances at your work? If so, that is probably the delay.

 Re: CPL 'glitch'?
There is no requirement to change the address on your CPL. When you bought your firearm only one of the 2 ID's provided must be current. Everybody gets delayed, I have Feds, local LEO, hell even I get delayed if I forget to put "Jr" on my form.
Your ID address had nothing to do with the hold up. Sometimes if you wait 20 mins and have the FFL call back, they will get a proceed.

 Re: CPL 'glitch'?
Is it possible that you have name similar to someone else that isn't able to buy firearms?
I have been buying firearms for years and haven't been "delayed" yet. I do however put my SS Number on the 4473. I know it's optional and many don't want to put it on any forms but with me, I've been printed, blood tested, background checked, photographed, had my personal parts measured, etc, etc, by the Government for so many years due to various jobs that I figure I have no more secrets left.

 Re: CPL 'glitch'?
You have NO idea. I work security for Washington Arms Collectors. One of my friend's there, another security guy, got a denial during the 2010 October show in Puyalluy, you know, the biggest show of the year... Anyway, according to WAC rules, if you get a denial, you immediately lose your membership.
Well, he also lost his job. It took him 10 months to get that all cleared up with the FBI, and get his job back and membership reinstated. It turns out, his name matched someone else in another part of the country who was ineligible to buy guns. 10 months... I understand a denial is different than a delay during a NICS check, but still. This was his only job and he couldn't work for almost a year because the FBI wouldn't actively help him figure this out.

 Re: CPL 'glitch'?
The CPL has nothing to do with the NICS check where you got your delay. They aren't connected. The NICS examiner doesn't know if you have a CPL or not. If they did, the times that employees I know who accidentally did a NICS check on a handgun purchaser without a CPL would have been stopped. We are supposed to be exempt from the NCIC for permits issued after July last year according to the BATFE, but our state law specifically says we have to do a NICS check.
If someone has the same name and is a criminal, even if you put your SSN you can still get delays until all data is sorted and reviewed. Even if you have a UPIN you'll likely get delays.
You can be a cop and get delays, hell you can own a gun shop and have the FFL in your name as a sole proprieter and if you decide to run NICS checks when you buy a gun, you can get delays.

Get a UPIN and be done with it.
