Hey Pro Tip wear bright orange while out picking in the woods. A co-worker of mine was out picking with her dogs, granted it was first weekend of hunting season, and she and her dogs were shot at. She doesn't wear orange, and still doesn't despite being shot at. Good thing the hunter was a bad shot.

I stumbled into a freshly cut killzone last season while out in the woods. Looked up the funnel and saw the blind. Talk about your moments of worry. Luckily it was empty. Not a good feeling I'll tell you. I hike in an area that I see a lot of evidence of hunters. I do worry about getting targeted, but I don't wear bright orange. I do try to make some noise though as I go if I think anyone is in the area. (cars parked at nearby gates, ect.)

On a lighter note yesterday my workday had me out in the woods which is always a good day. Till I found this little guy and some of his friends then it turned into a great day.

I saw three bigger than that behind my house today. Had no idea what they were. May have to go back.

Pictures or it didn't happen! :D The chantrelle will have a solid stem vs false chantrelle which are hollow. The pine mushroom (matsutake) have a distinctive spice smell and that ring of cotton. Lots of false ones out there.

Chanterelles also pull apart like string cheese and have a slight apricot smell I’ve found and learned

Chanterelles also pull apart like string cheese and have a slight apricot smell I’ve found and learned Chanty gills are ridges, not thin fins. The gills may also fork or wander where as a "non" chanty will have fins of one blade from end to end. Chanty gills are often referred to as looking "melted". Chanty gills also run down the stem. Other shrooms will only have them on the head/cap. For anyone interested get a GOOD book with pics and go out with a person that knows what to show you. Dont go blindly picking/eating based off some internet advice.
