Made some brownies tonight... from the box, but added a bunch of chopped cashews and coconut to it --- been craving some sweets for a while now and figured I cook it before the heat this weekend. Prepped two chickens for me and my neighbor to smoke tomorrow --- again thinking having some fresh smoked meat before the heat would be a good thing..... Picked up some flour tortillas the other day - planning on some chicken burritos during the 'heat wave'...... Gonna make Yorkshire Pudding/popovers tomorrow too to go with the chicken 'before the heat'.

Oh hell ya --- I get the 'ketchup and mustard' craving all the time! No shame in some tasty dogs.... but next time --- at least put SOME effort into it and spiral cut them....

Planning on a burg or two coming up soon myself.

Made my yorkshire pudding/popovers on friday while I smoked the chicken.... They looked really promising at first - rising really nicely in the begining - but soon petered out --- I think they only rose to ~1/2 of what they should have. Still tasty as hell and reminded me of mom's popovers! I'll be trying again once the weather cools off. Gave half the batch to my neighbors with their chicken..... they seemed to like them, but knew they weren't what they should've/could've been..... BUT --- they RAVED about the chicken!!!! Said --- BEST EVER!!! Didn't do anything much out of the ordinary --- but I think I must have done everything just perfectly all together! I knew it tasted good on Friday night... but didn't think too much about it --- had a left over leg with the rest of the popovers and HOLY SHIT ---- it REALLY WAS that good!

Cooked up some black beans this morning --- just now making some rice with the juice/drippings from the smoked chicken..... I thinking the burritos Iim making tonight are gonna be fantastic!

On topic, anyone cook anything with a solar oven? Tempted to look into buying/making one.

There are a number of challenges to it, and I’m sure you’re aware of many.

It takes a long time, and the sun moves, so, oftentimes food doesn’t cook all the way…

Also, many of them made with cardboard don’t store well.

Here’s one site with some info.

Not trying to be a naysayer, just point out things to look out for as you move forward.

My grandfather built on long ago. A 6' diameter "dish" parabolic in shape with an array of 6"x6" mirrors inlaid. Was mounted on a clock drive so it tracked the sun.

Setup to reflect the sun into a smallish box with a rotisserie upon which many delish roasts were cooked.

After a couple months someone bumped it and it pointed at the side of the rotisserie box and burnt it to ashes.

I might have some pics of the setup and carnage.

I've got this one and it is amazing. It gets up to more than 300 degrees. It cooks as fast as a regular oven and keeps the moisture in. You can also dehydrate with it. If it is sunny out it will even work in below-freezing weather. It also has a sighting device to help you set it at the best direction and angle. Also, I mounted it to a board and lazy susan to the railing on my patio to make it easier to keep it pointed in the best direction.

Yesterday...

In the crockpot simmering all day:
1 20oz jar Newman's Own tomato-basil bombolina sauce
1/2lb 93% lean ground beef

Last minute in the microwave, for the sauce to be added to:
1 package Bertolli Pasta Sides Cheese Tortellini in Creamy Pesto

Toppings:
1 cup sliced black olives
generous coat Old Spaghetti Factory mizithra
light sprinkle fresh-ground Italian herbs

Verdict: worth making again.
