Post MSG
Mono Sodium Glutamate

Never really thought about it until lately. I remember the first time I thought about it.

I like gas station chicken tenders and joes. I have my favorite places that hand make them that I look forward to when on the road.

Last year I was at the Reservation and got a big ol box of chicken. Enough to have chicken later the next day to. After eating that night I felt horrible. Not sick, but burnt out like I had a hangover.

I didn't think much of it. I ate some chicken the next day for lunch and again I felt like a had a huge hangover. Hmmmm,??

I kinda forgot about it till a month or so later when I stopped there for some gas and it was late and the chicken was half off so I got another box. Same deal, another burn out after the the meal.

So I decided NO MORE res food.

Then a few months later ChexMix was on sale and I grabbed a few bags cuz I love them. After I ate about a half of a bag I sat down and felt horrible. Burnt out like a hangover again. I didn't get it.

So a few months goes by and while shooting trap one night I noticed one of the guys had a rash on the back of both hands and arms. I asked him and he said he was allergic to MSG and that what it was from.

That's when I made the connection and wondered. I went home and looked at the ChexMix and sure enough it has MSG.

Last night I had some Cheezit Snapd crispy crackers and BAM, hangover. I looked and it had MSG.

Seems anything I eat that has MSG screws me up good. Now I read most labels while shopping/eating.

Anyone else experience problems with MSG? Or maybe if you have odd reactions to certain foods, check the package/ingredients and see if it has MSG.

Hmm, thanks for posting this. I will somewhat frequently get diarrhea for a couple days and haven't been able to pinpoint what's causing it. The stupid doctor just wanted me to start eliminating things, but that doesn't help when it's an intermittent thing. I don't believe it's a gluten or lactose thing thank God! I wonder if it could be MSG?

Thanks for bringing it up! I've never had the hangover symptoms you're experiencing though.

Chicory root (also labeled as inulin) is in a lot of foods -- a LOT of foods -- and is a gut trigger for many people. If you've had stomach issues that aren't easily traced to a specific item, check the ingredient list of things you commonly eat and see if any of them include chicory root/inulin. It takes only a tiny amount to have noticeable effects.

MSG messes me up pretty bad if I eat enough of it, which sucks because it tastes great.

It looks like coarse salt. You can find it easily in Asian markets. My mom (korean) used to have a bag of it in the fridge.

Most of your beef/chicken bouillon cubes are just flavored MSG. Check the labels in your cupboard. You probably have a hoard of it.

They both can kill you.
They both can make you feel good.
They both are frowned upon by lots of people.

Choose Wisely. :wink05:

MSG gives me a nasty headache. I realize some foods naturally contain glutamic acid, man made sodium glutamate is not so good.

An exitotoxin. Most things at KFC apply. A lot of fast food.

Why are people so obese and sick nowadays?

I don't know that foodbabe is such a good source for health & nutrition info.

She's a former banker, and had exposes done n her by many, including Forbes & NPR.

When people do a story, she rushes to delete their references.

Lots of online critiques, here's one:
