Tomorrow going to cut some collards. Damn they are good fresh.

some like it sliced with a tiny bit of salt on them.

Gonna try that. As kids we would eat a bite of raw tater.

Looked at the crazy prices of tomato cages. Decided to make our own from bamboo. Did a proof of concept this am.

Our three young fig trees made the winter but we lost an Asian pear tree. Dead to the core.

For tomato cages, I bought a roll of concrete mesh material from a local concrete supply place. Better deal than the big box stores actually, and a thicker gauge wire. Super easy to use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel, and cut right along one of the vertical spars so that one side has the full length of all the horizontals. Bend those to make hooks, roll, and hook it to itself. VOILA! A couple years ago I bought a large roll and made cages for all the ladies in the family as Mother's Day presents. I'll take some pics when I get home if you're interested.
And speaking of pics, I'm finally getting some hot peppers and will snap some pics of the first fruits - purple ghost, apocalypse scorpion, white ghost, 7 pot brain strain, and more.... Carolina reapers have lots of flowers but no fruit yet. La nina has been kicking my pepper garden's butt all year! :doh1:

The late weather start slowed my pepper plants way down also. The Ghost Peppers, Reapers, and Habaneros all have just flowers as of now.

My more mild peppers and all my other stuff is doing great including the Brussel Sprouts.

Our compost waste has given us more edibles than the garden so far. We did get some nice peas, but we were too busy to harvest all of them, probably the same with green beans now. I think we will let them seed and replant next year. Our tomatoes always die, so even though we have a couple compost pile plants, i dont expect them to ripen fully.

The good crop, i think will be the red potatoes from the compost, also the poppies we never planted, but randomly appeared, are back for year 5 and are taking over since we keep tilling them in.

I told the GF, we should just harvest seeds this year if we cant get around to using the veggies.

It seems like we have better luck with harvested seeds than bought anyway.
