California roll, except not inside out.

OMG, I wish I knew how easy these things were to make, a long time ago..

Surimi was ~$3, $2 10 sheets of nori, calrose I already had, $1 for an english cucumber, $1 for an avocado.. $3 for wasabi... already had mayo and sriracha for spicy mayo sauce...So far, I've had 8 rolls in the past couple days, and I'm gonna polish off the last 2 right now... and still have a bit of stuff left over...

$10 for 10 cali rolls.... nomnomnom..

Other than the mayo, it's pretty effin healthy too....Rice, cucumber, fish, seaweed.

Side note, I need to find who sells grape leaves, inexpensively, so I can make some Dolma

Nice . . . yeah, some sushi is pretty easy to make.

Did you put salt, sugar and vinegar in the rice?

seasoned rice vinegar, salt, and a teaspoon of honey.

I'm not really a fan of the whole uncooked fish thing... So I'll probably stick with what I have.. I might try smoked salmon...

I'm digging the crab, rice, avocado, and cucumber mix though.... The wasabi makes things interesting, I'm learning a little goes a LONG way... I got this tiny toothpaste tube thing and I'm like 'WTF?! This tiny thing is HOW MUCH?!', then I quickly realized the portions it was supposed to be used in. Cleared my nose, that's for sure..

Another thing to try is canned seafood. By that I mean regular canned tuna, maybe some canned oysters, or sardines, or whatever. I find that all of those have a good strong flavor, which I like in the sushi.

:thumbsup2:

Use a sharp knife and have a glass of water to dip it in.

On the nigiri sushi, you might try a couple options
Ebi - cooked shrimp
Unagi - cooked eel (better than it sounds)
Kani - cooked crab leg

Our local joint also serves a cooked snow crab nigiri item which is pretty delicious.
On the other hand I cannot recommend uni (sea urchin gonads) or ankimo (monkfish liver) on rice

I think the sharp knife thing is the issue. I think my sharpener is toast.... I was using water quite liberally..

Dave... Shrimp sounds like my next stop... :D

Savory crepes - bacon, ham, sausage, good cheese, hot sauce, avocado, pineapple, etc. Make the crepe batter using 50% half-half and 50% unsweetened unflavored almond-coconut milk let it rest for at least 30 minutes. Use a good crepe pan, like Staub. Whip one out, fill to requirement and serve. Tasty!

One option in Puyallup might be Tacoma Boys, over by Costco down there; maybe call first.

There's also Marvel Foods, in Auburn & Tacoma.

Or Euro foods in Federal Way.

Also, Marlene's in Tacoma or Fed Way...They used to sell dolmas in their deli....

Last idea would be hit one of the Greek Restaurants down there during off-peak hours & see if they'll sell you some.

Just some thoughts....

I got a sushi kit, and made sushi once. Never again the rice part alone was too much a pain in the butt.

I cooked this on saturday.....

Man, after grabbing a Cure 81 Spiral ham back at xmas time, I didn't hesitate when I had a chance to pick up another for .35/# - I grabbed a 9#er for ~$3!!!!! I went goggling back at xmas and found a couple of sites suggested cooking per instructions, BUT substitute 1 cup of coke instead of the 1 cup water added to the pan before cooking.... I thought that sounded like a pretty good idea.... but thought it would be better with cherry coke. I had regular coke and cherry 7up, so I decided to do half and half..... DAMN!!!!! Tastiest ham i remember eating in a long time!!!!! I repeated again on saturday for this ham and did a much better job of glazing the ham..... this one turned out even BETTER!!!! I'll be feasting on this for quite some time ---- I've found its awesome to refry the ham in the skillet when reheating - browning it up makes all the difference in the world! Ham on everything!

Can't wait to cook up the bone and make some killer ham and beans again.
