Bacard Ciclon. I haven't had it since college, but from what I remember it's actually pretty good.

The ultimate memory eraser for me is mixing whiskey and tequila. The night never goes smoothly when I do that, which is why I don't do it anymore!

Because I like bourbon, and it's cheap, and I've never had it before.

Price is good. Taste is meh, I'd rather have Evan Williams.

Wait you've never had Beam before? This amazes me as it is pretty common, I don't know just strikes me as odd.

I live a sheltered life, and I didn’t bat for Team Whiskey until recently.

My intro drinking days were started in Montana where whiskeys for drinkin' and waters for fighting. It seemed like every party I went to there was a bottle of Jim, Jack, or Crown. Every now and again you would get something low ball like R&R or BV, or even worse 10 High. I was more of a rum drinker myself. However, over the past few years my wife and I have been into scotch.

The crazy thing about liquor, especially whiskey, is most 'companies' are selling you a story. A larger company wants to diversify their portfolio, so they buy up some old story, and sell to a different audience. Or a start up wants something that sounds historic, so they craft up some story and buy their product from a wholesaler. Even places like Total Wine have their own 'brand' that they push (Spirits Direct), and that is all liquor bought on the secondary market. Say Lagavulin made a batch that doesn't meet their expectations, so they sell it to another company and it is sold under a different brand name. Most consumers are non the wiser, especially those who are looking for a cheaper alternative than the big name brands. Brands like Lagavulin don't want an inferior product in their line, and it is money and time wasted just to dump it. So selling it at a discount helps ease the pain of having a batch that doesn't meet expectation, which would normally be dumped.

Here is a vid of a guy explaining just this. He is a bit annoying, but still interesting. The second one is a bit better.

Alright, thoughts on the hard seltzer water? A little over a month ago my golf buddy was talking about these, and I've heard the buzz on radio, and seen shelves of this stuff both full, and empty. Guy at Fred Meyer said they were restocking this stuff at least 2-3 times a day. To the point now they just have a huge display with cases stacked 6 ft high. Sales are up 30% from last year, and currently it is out selling craft beer. Now large beer brands are trying to capitalize by having their own competing product. So I picked up a single to drink while golfing, and it wasn't bad. It was about 85 out, so it was kind of refreshing, easy to drink. My wife was giving me shit about it, and I bought a mixed pack for her and took it camping the next week. She thought they were good, and she's since bought more. Well tonight we decided to get a variety of brands and see which brand/flavor is the best. It is kind of a crap shoot. They are all good for different reasons. But we both think White Claw has the better taste because it is just slightly sweeter than the others we tried (some mermaid stuff, and Truly) Truly had a more aggressive flavor, but lacked the sweetness. The mermaid stuff was trying to be too fancy with some weird flavor combos. For me that White Claw stuff was the better of the three. This is a panty dropper drink for sure. What sayeth the rest of you?

I like Bourbon, and the Safeway carries a very good inexpensive bourbon called Samuel Grant. Tastes as good as Evan Williams at 2/3rd the price. Gets the buzz on.

You had me at “panty dropper.” :thumbsup2:

I’ve had Truly a couple of times, and enjoyed it. I say hell yeah, there’s a niche for drinks like that and we should embrace them.

I’m a bit disappointed that wine coolers have gone the way of the dinosaurs, in fact.
