Was hiking couple days ago in Gold Bar and ran into a black bear. Season starts in August and seems that I'll hunt black bear in my GMU 448 in Gold Bar - Index area. Seems that there is some black bears in the area. Anyone want to join? Any tips on the area?
Are you consume black bear meat? How likely it's to get sick from it? What is your tips and tricks for handling meat (let it hang, freeze, salt, can or cook right away etc.). Are you making burgers? Sausages? Use it as filler mixing it with other type of meat? Recipes?
Tell me everything you know about cooking black bear meat.

It's edible for sure. I knew a guy who said bear was his favorite meat. With any meat health and diet of the animal will determine how tasty it is. I've eaten a lot of things, can't recall ever eating bear. As Dreadi said get it tested. Maybe a call to Fish and Wildlife might help you with that. Would make a great rug or wall hang too.

I've heard that they are best when eating berries, instead of carrion.
