I went to Asian Pacific Market in Kent last week. I drove in, then got a bad vibe, knowing that I had been there once before and didn't enjoy it. I put on a brave face and went in, though . . . and grabbed a couple of cans of curry paste and got the hell out. Jesus. Crowded, super-narrow aisles, not a friendly place for a fat white guy. Then I went to Uwajimaya and got what I needed, and had a fairly pleasant shopping experience too.

I hear all of that! I get some stuff online, and wifey hits H-Mart, so we tend to get most things covered. I got sick of H-mart long ago. I haven’t been to DK in years because it’s such a PITA, but just thought I’d mention it, since it’s not far from you. And yeah, Asian Pacific can be sketchy. There’s a place in Kent, called Hong Kong Market…kinda small and cramped, but, they’ve opened another one in Burien, where the Big Lots used to be. Supposed to be great, and looks really good online, but we haven’t hit it yet. If you come across on 405 and straight up the hill like you’re going to the airport…stay straight and go through the first 2 lights, and it’s on the left. Piece of cake during non-rush hour. Supposed to have a good deli for Bahn mi, so that might be a good trip.

Good tips, thanks. It's probably worth a little drive for me. If Safeway would just carry Thai basil, I could avoid most of this drama.

Closest to you, I think, is Tukwila. Do you give your alcoholic friends directions to the liquor store, too?

I made corned beef and veggies tonight, kinda winging it. The food was edible but not good enough to talk about. But … I used three of the many functions in my Instant Pot Duo Crisp. I dropped the frozen corned beef in and used the sous vide function to thaw and cook it, then pressure cooked both the meat and the veggies for just a couple of minutes, then switched to the air fryer lid to finish it all off at 400. What a versatile appliance.
