There was an ad on CL for firewood --- the guy took down a 12" dia plum tree and was giving away all the wood.... I keep thinking I should go down and grab a bunch just to see what its like....

Sadly I have been buried with racing and catering events with my big rig. Havent had a chance to even really check it out. Will try and take some pics of a big smoke I'm doing tomorrow with the Smoke Wagon.

I am gonna get some Bear Mountain from my father in law. I will see how that works out.

If you want 100% pure wood of the flavore you choose, Bear mountain pellets aren't 100% the Wood they say on the Bag. They use a base of Alder or Oak. Is that a bad thing? Well, it depends on what you are looking for. At least they don't use flavorings like Traeger. https://bearmountainbbq.com/blogs/fire- ... -vs-blends

golddigger14s wrote: July 4th contest? Let the smoking begin! Well, I've got smoke flowing but no food in there just yet. I just bought a Recteq Bullseye, which arrived yesterday. Here it is on the left, next to my Recteq RT-680: The plan here is that the RT-680 will continue to be used for big cooks or low-and-slow, while the Bullseye will do the hotter, faster work. It will get up to about 750 degrees fairly quickly, which makes it a hell of a lot better for searing than the RT-680, which has seen 500 a couple of times in its life but more normally gets to 400 after a fairly long time. The Bullseye did arrive with some shipping damage. That black box on the left side of it is the pellet hopper and houses the controller; it was pretty smashed up on both the bottom and top. I mostly straightened out the bottom, but the top is still banged up and some of the sealant is broken. It's still functional (I'm doing the seasoning cook right now), but Recteq is going to send me some replacement parts. For the record, they offered to replace the entire grill which is super-cool of them . . . but I can fix this, it's not worth the expense of replacing it.

Yep, they've already shipped me replacement parts, plus a free sear kit that sells for $110. Can't argue with that.
I had the Bullseye running at 400 degrees, which is about as high as my bigger smoker will get. I turned it to "riot mode" (which is basically "full throttle") . . . it hit 500 in four minutes, 600 in five minutes, 700 in eight minutes, and 749 in nine minutes. This display doesn't go any higher than 749, but it was still climbing pretty fast so I'm sure it went higher than that!

You better grab a couple Steaks and lay a real sear on those bad boy's now that you have the Power to actually "Sear" some Meat. Nice Ribeye's at Safeway for 10.99lb right now.

At one point I called them, but I got the recording that indicated that they were currently closed and I decided to hang up rather than leave a message. This morning I got a call from them. "We missed a call from this number on Saturday, and just wanted to make sure that you were taken care of."

Anyone smoke a rump roast?
Low and slow or hot?
Looks very lean. I have a dry salt rub on it now.
