Where can I find some to hunt? Got a .17hmr that I’d like to try out on some. Seen a few near Okanogan area, but few and in areas not appropriate to hunt. Areas outside Bend, OR are full of them, but that’s a long trek and I don’t know where there’s public land.

I know several places that we hit off and on, but they arent overly large colonies and are on the Eastside.

My understanding is that you would run out of ammo in Montana.
Group trip anyone?

Group trip anyone? Montana had a tough winter where we normally hunt and numbers were way down. Normally its not uncommon to shoot a brick of ammo by lunchtime. This year I think I only shot around 2K round on a 6day trip. It would be great to find someplace here in WA for day or weekend trips. I've heard there are areas around Yakima with huntable numbers, but can't substantiate the reports or whether it is public or private land.

I only occasionally have seen them and not in large numbers. The last two I got I was in Umtanum Canyon deer hunting with a .32 Winchester. Now California Ground Squirrels those are on most ditchbanks.

They're all over in and around Yakima. They like to build their dens along the edges of fruit orchards - plenty of food, water, and cover. We pop them with .22s while quail hunting all the time. Your best bet is private land, but you can find them in good numbers on public land that is adjacent to private orchards.
