Shot a spike buck around 10;30 this morning.
This year has been slow getting deer on the meat pole. We have been seeing a bunch of deer but they were either to small, not good shots or bad drags out.
The spike buck today only had one antler on the right side. It was facing straight away, had to wait a few minutes for it to turn just a little to get a good killing shot. Hit it high right shoulder and the bullet never exited the deer so I will recover the bullet and weigh it to see how much of the 100 Hornaday Sst is left.

Got my airline ticket for my annual month long deer hunting trip back to Upstate New York. A friend from North West Firearms and his long time girlfriend will be going back with me for two weeks of deer.

I bought my non-resident Pennsylvania Small Game/Big Game hunting license last Monday $102. When it arrives in the mail I'll send in the doe tag application.
New York state hunting licenses go on sale August 1st.
I bought two airline tickets to take Mason back to go hunting & trapping October 18th to November 2nd.
I also bought a airline ticket to go back November 16th to December 14thto go deer hunting & trapping.
These will be fun trips and we will make some good memories.
My friend Ed and his partner Mel will be coming back to hunt deer for two weeks. They will be taking a couple of days for some sight seeing, Niagara Falls, maybe New York City. The car museum in Norwich.
Plus they will harvest a few deer unlike hunting here.
I head shot this doe while it was bedded down last year.

I received my Pennsylvania hunting license in the mail on Saturday and filled the doe tag application out and mailed it in. I should know in a week or so if I get one for Pennsylvania.

When I buy my New York hunting license and doe tags on August 1st I'll probably buy a non-resident trapping license at the same time. They are kind of proud ot the trapping license. The small game/big game non-resident hunting license and two doe Tage cost $112, the non-resident trapping license is $275.

So all of my hunting licenses are bought. I ended up with the New York small game/big game license, a buck tag a archery tag (buck or doe), a doe tag. I'll get two more doe tags when ther go over the counter sales.
Plus I bought a New York trapping license.

I also bought a Pennsylvania Small game/big game license and two doe tags. I could of bought up to six doe tags.if we do much deer hunting in Pennsylvania I'll buy a non-resident Pennsylvania trapping license.

My brother has his regular buck tag, a muzzle loader tag, an archery tag and two doe Tage,
He will be getting two more doe tags when they go over the counter.
My friend Ed and Mel bought the New York non-resident small game/ big game licenses and they each have two doe tags and they can get another two doe tags when they sell them over the counter.

Mason had a choice, two weeks of small game or four weeks of big game hunting.
He chose two weeks of small game hunting.

Bow season will be open then so he might give a shot at that.

We will be giving plenty of venison away to family and friends.
We generally cut & wrap in the early evenings after we are done hunting for the day. Two guys working at it doesn't take long to get a deer cut up and processed.
We use to donate the deer hides to a hunting club that would sell them to raise funds for their youth program but with the democrap party shutting everything down because of their home based pandemic the didn't do anything last year.
This year we will be taking them to a tannery called Sivco. They are who we have to do any tanning we want done.
This year we will get more steel in the ground. I'd love to get some hides tanned for my gun shed.
I have a local guy that is mounting a red fox and a nice fisher for me that I caught last October when I took Mason back there.
My bucket list is coyote, gray fox, bobcat, raccoon, muskrat, mink, beaver and a skunk.
We'll see where that goes. I will be buying more traps before October.
I sent an invite to the guys at Hoosier Trapping Supply to trap fisher with up next year. We'll see how that develops.
Hoosier is my favorite Trapping Supply company.
They have going on eleven years on YouTube of their Trapping videos from several states and fisher trapping is on Justin Jett's bucket trip.
Outdoor Trapper Hoosier on YouTube are very informative on set location, setting up the different types of sets and they have excellent baits, lures and scents.
They also have a YouTube link "The Catch Circle "
And a podcast series.
They do alot for the Trapping community.

Things are shaping up for the trips back to Upstate New York.
The airline tickets are bought.
The New York and Pennsylvania hunting licenses and doe tags are bought. We will all be getting another two doe tags apiece on November 1st for New York State.
Between my brother, my friend Ed, Mel and myself we will have twenty two deer tags for New York.
For Pennsylvania I will be hunting there with my brother, we each have a buck tag and two doe tags.
So combined State tags we will have twenty-eight deer tags.
We should have some decent pictures and some good hunting stories for you guys.
I did buy a new Traditions 350 legend single-shot rifle to use this year. I was going to buy a Vortex illuminated scope to put on it but my brother-in-law gave me two scopes.
A lupold Vx2 - 4x14 and a Nikon prostaff 2.5 x 10.
So I'll put the Nikon 2.5 x 10 on the 350 Legend.
I set aside $200 for the scope mount, rings and four boxes of ammo for it.
I still need to buy some trapping supplies.
Another 1/2 dozen 160 conibear traps, some bail, lures and bobcat urine.

If we have the time I might buy a Pennsylvania trapping license.

Looking forward to this coming hunting trip.
