So I have been threatening to take waterfowl hunting more seriously again for a few years. This will be the year. I have pumps I can hunt with, but this is a good excuse for another toy.
What all do you guys use? Thoughts on what you have shot or seen? I am a buy once, cry once kinda guy. I'm leaning towards a SBEII if I could find one for a fair price. My dad just got the new Remington this last year and loves it. It's also considerably cheaper. Can’t argue w the SBE. However since benellis patent expires there are a ton of inertia semi autos out there now. The Turkish ones are pretty cheap. Mossberg 930 and Winchester SX3 are good bets too

I’m old school. I love an older humpback Browning A5. They will hold their value, and become family heirlooms. Cabelas usually has a few very nice ones in the 1000 dollar range. I have seen a few with screw in chokes. Just a thought.

No need to spend a lot of money, especially because you'll probably ride it hard and put it away wet. The Stoeger M3000 and M3500 get great reviews and I have yet to meet anyone who has anything bad to say about them (except the guys who have never owned or fired one). They're a great value.

First off are you going to be hunting near any salt? If so avoid gas guns!

My advice would be for you to go out and hunt with a pump shotgun first. I have taken many young and old want to be hunters to the field for duck and goose hunting, many of them said they would not be back because it was just not their thing. A lot of them geared up for it with new shotgun‘s, new decoys, new camo layout blinds, waders, the whole ball of wax. Just to find out they didn’t like waterfowl hunting.
I upgraded to a Stoger M2000 camo shotgun and it took me a month to not pump the damn thing...  Good luck out there, be safe.  _________________ "You are either with us...as Americans. Remington 1100 is a solid choice. lots of used out there if that is in your target range. Cabela’s in Marysville usually has a selection. Or Skagit Arms..

Im not new at all to waterfowl hunting to clear that up. I'm just about 8 years absent from it. No decoys, no waders that fit, and pumps that work. So figure I'm older, have the money, time for new waders and new fancy toy.

If money really is no object, then just get the SBE II...definitely the "buy once, cry once" choice. I suggested the Stoegers because they will do the job just as well but for far less $ - which leaves you money for new waders, camo, decoys, and a boat.

Benelli.
I own 3 of them. M1, M2, and M3. All cycled perfectly everything from target loads to high brass magnums. Deals can be had but you have to keep an eye out, they go fast. I looked at the Stoeger and Beretta inertia guns but passed because you can't get any accessories for them. And none of the Benelli parts will fit on them. _________________ NRA Endowment Member. Just updated with a poll. Going to go this weekend or next week and buy one of the 2. If you had to choose, which would it be? Reasons?
I like the features and feel of the A5, plus its a hair cheaper. On the negative side, don't care for the A5 humpback lpok. Otherwise badass gun. Benelli SBE III I know is a top notch gun. Lacking 1 feature ffom the Browning that is nice, but not a necessity. Good looks as well. Bit more expensive though. Also, my new puppy is named Nelli. I have both and take the A5 every time.
Never had an issue with either, but I’ve had the Browning longer and it just fits me. When shopping make sure to shoulder them quickly many times, to determine which get to your sight picture better. Or better yet go shoot them both, if you know someone that owns them near by _________________ The Dude Abides |
