I got too many drakes in my duck straight run, so some of them are headed to the freezer.

Looking at YouTube, people are dipping the ducks in poultry wax to get the dawny feathers out. Does everyone do that or are there other ways to get all the feathers off?

For anyone that's curious, the answer is yes. Wax makes the defeathering process a million times easier unless you are just going to breast the ducks out.

You don't need fancy/expensive duck wax. Regular food grade paraffin wax will do.

We treated them like chickens when I grew up. Chop the heads, pluck, dip in boiling water, pluck more, repeat. At the very end we would just use a torch to burn what little feathers are left.
We did 50-60 chickens a year and only about a dozen ducks though.

Yep I’m with Jager, we don’t need an extra step or added expense to do what’s been done for hundreds of years.

I did the wax thing for a season on wild ducks. It works really well just take a not of time. Just used cheap wax from the canning section at the grocery store.

When we get a large number of ducks, we wax their pin feathers off after plucking them.
Small numbers of duck, I just skin them and we use rendered duck fat from the store to cook them in.
