Monday we were limited on time we went squirrel hunting early and Mason shot a large Male gray squirrel.
We had to go to town and afterwards we set three 160 conibear traps for Fisher on natural leaning poles and one1 1/2 coilspring trap for coyote/ fox.
We connected on a ten pound female Fisher which was the highlight of the trip for me.
We used squirrel guts for bait. Today was a wash out, three inches of rain and a lot of flooding. Just checked our traps and drank a bunch of beer.
Tomorrow is squirrel hunting early and setting more traps.

Snow that deep you would need a pair of snow shoes to continue hunting.

3 feet of snow in October??? Does Al Gore know about this???

They imported fishers here forty years ago and they took off like wildfire.
They are killing machines and almost eliminated the squirrel population , plus a lot of other small game.
We had three inches of rain yesterday so we lost a day of settling traps. We have nine conibear traps set for fisher and six leg hold traps set for coyote, fox & bobcat.
Tomorrow we will set more traps..

We are living the dream out here. We seen a good size flock of wild turkeys today, about forty birds.

We have been seeing deer every day.

We are going to get that fisher mounted with al squirrel Mason shot in it's mouth.

Yesterday we checked the traps and the only thing we caught was a chipmunk.
Afterwards we took a ride to Ithaca to take Mason to the Earth Museum and to two of the water falls up there. There was a bunch of people fly fishing at the first small waterfall not far from Cayuga Lake and were catching fish, probably land locked salmon.

I take off again Wednesday morning for a month or deer hunting.
Between my brother and myself we have twelve deer tags.
All I need to take back there is the cloths I have on that day.
We will be trying out some new hunting spots. I might take back a large ice chest with some extra hunting stuff and use the ice chest to bring back fifty pounds of venison.
I will post pictures as they get taken.
Here is a group picture of a few friends I hunted with last year.

Well it sounds like you and Mason had a very good time in the early season. You can’t get memories like that while sitting on a couch with a piece of technologically advanced technology…

I’m looking forward to your hunting exploits, keep us posted. :thumbsup2:
