Our 7 day early Muzzle Loader season opened yesterday, 10/2/21. We got 3 bull Roosevelts for 3 hunters. Mine was the biggest, a 5X6.

Like Ted Nugent said.
"Whack'em, Pack'em and Stack'em.
My hunting partner and I each get and elk every year with a muzzle loader. We live around the elk all year, and have an unfair advantage over those that don't. My current Muzzle Loader has killed 21 Roosevelt Elk, including one that went in the Boone and Crockett record book in 2009. I haven't kept track of all the deer.
Don't get me wrong, a lot of locals can't hunt for shit, and don't harvest much if any elk. You still have to have the skills that come with experience. Some people hunt elk as a vacation. I kill an elk every year like how others that have gardens every year, and are good at gardening.

He’s generously allowed us to hunt his property during deer season in the past and hosted us which included delicious seafood that he and his wife harvested.

Hunting elk in this state is hard to pull away from known areas and for me to go hunt his area, would require a re-education. Not impossible, just a real commitment. However, next year just might be the time to leave my known areas.

Dreadi is correct. The best way to consistently harvest elk, is to get to know the behavior of elk in an area. Every year you learn more about how they behave in a certain area. Their behavior is very repetitious and once you learn how they behave when feeding, breeding, when pressured in an area, you let them come to you. The only short cut is to go with someone who already has that local knowledge. I believe Dana will be doing some duck hunting with me this year. I'm sure we will discuss elk then ;-)

Nice, help him out. He's getting hungry.

I saw an Elk in the middle of the River just outside of Greenwater today, not sure where she was going. The rest of the herd couldn't have been far behind though.
