Wasn't sure where this should go, this forum seems sort of appropriate, mods move at your discretion.
So, I'm slowly cleaning up my garage as I look toward retiring and want the space for projects, whatever they may be. I came across my old tackle box that's mostly filled with air, a few spools of who knows what kind of line, a couple of lures, no hooks to speak of, a. filleting knife, a couple of bobbers, a small quantity of weights, etc. Basically nothing if I needed to go catch a fish because reasons. Oh, and I have an Ugly Stik (remember those?), but the reel is toast.
Let's say I wanted to go catch a fresh water fish in the PNW, or possibly something on the sound from my boat, what would be a basic load out to give me a reasonable chance of success? I'm not looking to become a fisherman of any repute, just want a decent tackle box that'll give me a decent chance. For reference, I can't remember the last time I went fishing for anything other than crabs or clams, hence the sorry state of my current tackle box.
Suggestions?

My daughter is a fish killer. When she was ten, we were out on the Puget Sound in a friend's boat, salmon fishing for silvers. My daughter had been digging through friend's tacklebox and brought a bottle of rainbow colored powerbait to me asking: "Daddy, can I use this pretty stuff?"
"Well," I said, "sweetie, that's for fresh water fishing, but if you want to try a gob of that you sure can." (Was that legal?)
She plunked her hook in the water and I swear twenty seconds later was hauling in the only salmon caught on that boat that day.
This is not a paid endorsement, but, testify, that stuff works.
Used to be a good boat, and tackle store in Woodinville. Why not wander their aisles and pick their brain for a good starter kit?
